
Suns even series with 6-1 win

GREENVILLE _ Victor Diaz and Reggie Abercrombie each delivered long home runs and three Jacksonville pitchers smothered Greenville's bats Friday, leading the Suns to a 6-1 Southern League victory at Municipal Stadium.
Starter Eric Stults (3-4) and relievers Steve Langone and Scott Proctor limited the G-Braves to one hit over the last six innings as the Suns rebounded from Thursday's ninth-inning loss in the series opener.
A fourth-inning home run by Diaz, his first of the season, broke a 1-1 tie. The Suns (18-22) made it 4-1 when Nick Alvarez singled home Tarrik Brock in the eighth, and Abercrombie's home run made it 6-1 in the ninth.
Diaz collected three of the Suns' 13 hits. Six hits came against starter Bubba Nelson (3-3), who walked two batters and struck out seven in six innings.
The G-Braves (18-22) collected five singles in the first three innings, but were stifled until Pete Orr's two-out double in the ninth.
Jacksonville took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on back-to-back doubles by Tony Socarras and Stults.
The series resumes with a 7:15 p.m. game Saturday that includes an appearance by Reggie the Mascot. Roman Colon (3-1) is scheduled to start for the G-Braves against Jacksonville ace John Hanrahan (4-1)., who ranks among the league leaders with a 2.59 earned-run average. The series concludes with a 1:15 p.m. game Sunday. The Huntsville Stars come to town Monday to begin a 4-game series.
