Strong Pitching Lifts Hillcats

Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

The Lynchburg Hillcats got back in the win column with a 2-1 victory over the Delmarva Shorebirds on Wednesday evening.

Lynchburg was carried by a strong outing from Alonzo Richardson who picked up his sixth victory of the season after throwing six solid innings. Tomas Reyes picked up his tenth save of the season after shutting the door in the ninth.

Angel Genao started the game off with a bang as he blasted a solo home run over the left field wall to put Lynchburg in front. His first inning home run was his fourth of the season.

The Shorebirds would match it in the top of the second as Angel Tejada would drive home Jalen Vasquez from second to tie the ballgame.

Then in the fourth, Jose Devers would open the inning with a triple in the right-center field gap. With the infield pulled in, Manuel Mejias would pick up the RBI-single on a sharp grounder up the middle to put Lynchburg in front.

From there, the pitching staff would do their job as Zane Morehouse would come in and throw two shutout innings to pass the baton to the closer. For Lynchburg, the win helps them keep pace with division-leading Carolina with less than three weeks remaining.

Lynchburg and Delmarva will play game three of their series on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at Bank of the James Stadium.
