Florence Y'alls News Release
LOVES PARK, IL - Brett Durand baffled the Florence Freedom all game as the right-hander tossed a complete game in a 10-1 Rockford RiverHawks victory Sunday night at Road Ranger Stadium.
The Freedom managed only four hits, three for doubles, throughout the ballgame. Florence was able to put two hits together in the eighth inning for their only run. Matt Stiffler doubled in Zach Goldberg but by then the RiverHawks already had a 10-0 lead.
Preston Vancil started for Florence and failed to make it through four innings. The right-hander was touched up for seven runs in 3 2/3 innings in the loss, dropping his record to 4-2.
Jason James hit a 2-run homer off Vancil in the third to make it 4-0 Rockford. Steve Szkotak relieved Vancil in the fourth and allowed three more RiverHawk home runs over the next three innings. Brad Hough tossed the final 1 1/3 scoreless for Florence.
Durand (8-5) struck out nine Freedom hitters and only walked one for the win.
Matt Mazurek led everyone at the plate finishing 3-3 with a home run, four runs scored and two stolen bases.
The Freedom (36-41) return home for a six game homestand beginning Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Windy City Thunderbolts after dropping two of three against Rockford. The Freedom finished 3-3 on the road trip with the loss on Sunday.
