River City Slips Past Beach Bums

Traverse City Beach Bums News Release


TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Traverse City Beach Bums fell to the River City Rascals 6-3 in the final game of a homestand on Sunday night.

River City was able to get on the board in the first inning. Ryan Wehrle singled home JoJo Batten with two outs to give the Rascals a 1-0 lead against Beach Bums starter David Nathanson. The Rascals made it 2-0 in the fourth when Danny Sawyer doubled home Wehrle.

The Beach Bums scored their first run in the fourth inning. Andrew Barbaro drew a walk and Mike Victor singled. Brian Lapin drove in a run with a single. River City came back with a run in the fifth to extend the lead to 3-1. Scott Houin led off with a triple and crossed the plate on a single by Chad Maddox.

Mike Epping tied the score in the sixth for the Beach Bums against River City starter Josh Lowey. Brian Lapin walked and with two outs Brandon McArthur singled. Mike Epping followed with a triple into right center on a 1-0 pitch. The triple was his fourth of the season.

David Nathanson worked into the ninth for the Beach Bums, recording the first out of the frame before River City scored three times to pick up the victory. Jorge Gutierrez doubled and Bryan Resnick was hit by a pitch. Scott Houin, who had three hits in the game, drove in the first run with a single and JoJo Batten followed with a double to score two off of reliever B.J. Hagen. Nathanson took the loss.

Mike Victor had two of the six hits in the contest for the Beach Bums. Andrew Barbaro reached base three times with a single and two walks.

Traverse City will use an off day tomorrow to travel down to suburban St. Louis. The Beach Bums open a series with the Gateway Grizzlies at GCS Ballpark on Tuesday evening at 8:05 pm. David Dinelli (1-5, 6.46) will make the start for the Beach Bums while RHP Christian Castorri (2-1, 4.63) is slated to go for the Grizzlies. The contest can be heard live on The Fox FM.
