Strong Fourth Quarter Propels Jam Past Skyforce

Sioux Falls, S.D. - The Bakersfield Jam defeated the Sioux Falls Skyforce 126-114 Saturday night in front of a season-high crowd of 5,579 at the Sioux Falls Arena. Bakersfield was able to pull away from Sioux Falls late in the fourth quarter in a game that saw 35 lead changes.

Sioux Falls (14-31) got on the board first when Trey Gilder found Dominique Coleman for a corner jumper to take an early 2-0 lead. Renaldo Major led the charge early for Bakersfield with two dunks in the first quarter. Trey Johnson's jumper at the buzzer knotted the score at 31 after one.

Both teams continued to exchange leads in the second quarter. Late in the half, Jeremy Wise's bad pass resulted in a turnover and lob dunk on the other end when Anthony Mason, Jr. found Marqus Blakely for the slam to put Sioux Falls ahead 57-56. Major's layup just before the buzzer allowed Bakersfield to hold the slight advantage at half, 64-63.

Sioux Falls took the biggest lead of the game (88-82) when Coleman stole a pass leading to an uncontested dunk for him at the other end. Bakersfield seized back the momentum ending the quarter on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 88 entering the final quarter.

After three close quarters, Bakersfield was the team that was finally able to pull away. With the score tied at 102 halfway through the fourth, Bakersfield went on an 11-3 run to pull away from Sioux Falls. Sioux Falls was unable to recover and failed to complete the weekend sweep.

Major came up big for Bakersfield all night, scoring a season-high 32 points to go along with five rebounds and five assists. Juan Pattillo came off the bench to contribute 23 points and nine rebounds.

Mason, Jr. led Sioux Falls in scoring with 26 points to go along with five rebounds and five assists. Curtis Withers filled in nicely for Keith Benson, who earned a GATORADE call-up to the Golden State Warriors earlier today with 16 points, five rebounds and three blocks.

Bakersfield continues its road trip at Tulsa on Tuesday at 5 p.m. PT. Sioux Falls visits Springfield on Thursday at 6 p.m. CT.
