York Revolution News Release
Despite another solid start from Nick Schumacher, the York Revolution dropped the opening game of their road trip, managing a season-low three hits in a 2-1 loss to the Camden Riversharks on Wednesday evening at Campbell's Field. It was the Revs' first game since Sunday, having been postponed due to rain the previous two days. The Revs now lead the Freedom Division's second half by 4.5 games while their magic number to clinch remains nine. York's six-day road trip continues in South Jersey on Thursday night.
Schumacher (1-1) allowed just two runs in seven innings, but was outdueled by Camden's Humberto Sanchez (3-1) who allowed only one hit in six shutout frames to earn the victory.
Brian Burgamy lined a two-run double down the left field line with two outs and two strikes in the bottom of the sixth providing the Riversharks with their only runs of the night.
Schumacher worked out of trouble in the second inning when an error and a double by Alvin Colina had runners at second and third with no outs, but the righty came back to record a double play on a ground ball to second, retiring Colina who had strayed away from second base on the play. Schumacher also stranded two runners in the fourth, and was attempting to leave two more in the sixth when Burgamy struck for the game's big hit.
Sanchez allowed only a single by Chris Nowak in the second inning before turning it over to the bullpen.
The Revs had two on with no outs in the eighth but reliever Mike Koplove recorded a key force out on an attempted sacrifice bunt by Chris Walker, before retiring Ramon Castro on an inning-ending double play to keep the shutout intact.
Nowak doubled with one out in the ninth, moved to third on an error, and scored on a fielder's choice by Bryant Nelson, but the Revs only managed that unearned run, held to one run for the first time since losing by the same score in Camden on August 11.
Notes: Schumacher has gone at least seven innings in both starts and has only walked one batter combined in 14.1 innings with York. York's three starting pitchers who debuted in the last week have now combined for four quality starts in as many outings. Sanchez has combined to allow only three hits and one run in 13.0 innings over his last two starts, winning both. He has now combined to allow just one run on three hits in 10.0 innings against the Revs this season. York has lost four of five games for the first time since August 3-7. The Revs went 9-0 in the season series at home vs. Camden in 2011, but are now just 3-4 at Campbell's Field. The Revs will send Jino Gonzalez (0-1, 4.05) to the mound on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. to make his second start, against Camden's Carlos Vasquez (10-4, 3.31). York fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350 and Shoutcast.com (WPDC) beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
