
Bluefish Fall Late to Ducks

(Bridgeport, Conn. - Sept. 7, 2011) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (32-20, 64-51) were defeated by the Long Island Ducks (32-19, 72-42) by a score of 7-5 on Wednesday night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
Bridgeport starter Esteban Yan pitched well but did not factor in the decision. The righthander tossed seven innings and allowed three runs on eight hits, while striking out seven batters. Antonio Alfonseca (3-5) surrendered four runs in the eighth inning to take the loss. It was the first time that the reliever gave up a run in his last eleven outings. Chris Rivera tossed a scoreless ninth for the losing side.
Ducks starter Dave Williams struggled over the course of five frames, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks. Jason Monti (1-1) worked two scoreless frames to pick up the victory. Jeremy Hill and Bubbie Buzachero followed Monti. Buzachero earned his 20th save of the year with a perfect ninth.
Bridgeport started the scoring in the fourth inning. After Danny Putnam advanced to on a pass ball, after he struck out, Luis Rodriguez belted a two-run shot to left. His eighth homer of the season gave the Bluefish a 2-0 lead.
The home team extended the lead to five in the fifth by scoring three more runs, but then Long Island began to rally.
In the sixth, two homers led to three runs for the Ducks. Ray Navarette hit a solo shot to left, his 25th of the season to break the shutout. With one out, Lew Ford singled and J.R. House smacked a two-run shot to leftcenter to cut the deficit to two.
Long Island completed the comeback in the eighth when the road squad scored four more runs. Javier Colina and Lew Ford walked to lead off the inning. After an out had been recorded, Matt Esquivel lined a single to rightcenter to score Colina. Once a second batter had been retired, Freddie Thon lifted a three-run homer to right to put the Ducks ahead by two.
Bridgeport continues the three game series against the Long Island Ducks on Thursday. First pitch from Bridgeport is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The gates open one hour before first pitch. Thirsty Thursday is presented by Budweiser.
