The Syracuse Chiefs, behind the pitching of 2009 overall number one draft pick Stephen Strasburg, defeat the Gwinnett Braves 7-0 in game two of the four-game series Friday night at Alliance Bank Stadium in Syracuse, New York. Strasburg, making his first Triple-A start worked six scoreless innings and struck out six. He also knocked in two runs with a single and a bunt. The game was played in front of 13,766 - the largest crowd ever to see a baseball game in Syracuse. With the loss, the Braves (14-15) remain in second place in the IL South but are now 5 games behind Durham for first place. The Chiefs (17-11) are now alone in first place in the IL North.

It Was Over When: Strasburg took the mound. He retired the first 10 batters he faced, and gave up only one hit - a single to Gregor Blanco in the third.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Ryne Reynoso (0-4) earned the loss for the Braves. His line: 5.0 IP, 7H, 3R/ER, 3BB, 0K. Vladimir Nunez worked two innings: 2.0 IP, 4H, 2R/ER, 0BB, 2K. Cory Gearrin pitched the eighth: 1.0 IP, 1H, 2R/1ER, 2BB, 1K.

At the plate: The Braves could only muster four hits - singles by Gregor Blanco, Barbaro Canizares and Joe Thurston. The only extra base hit came off the bat of Mitch Jones with a pinch-hit double in the eighth.

Chiefs Beat:

On the Mound: Stephen Strasburg was dominating: 6.0 IP, 1H, 0R/ER, 1BB, 6K. Jason Bergmann pitched a scoreless seventh: 1.0 IP, 1H, 0R/ER, 0BB, 2K. Atahuaipa Severino worked a scoreless eighth: 1.0 IP, 1H, 0R/ER, 1BB, 1K; and Drew Storen threw a scoreless ninth: 1.0 IP, 1H, 0R/ER, 0BB, 0K

At the plate: Matt Morse went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Josh Whitesell went 2-for-4 and Kevin Mench went 2-for-5. Former Brave Pete Orr hit a solo homer in the 7th inning, his third of the season.

On Deck: The Braves and the Chiefs play game three of the four-game series in Syracuse tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. RHP J.D. Martin (1-1, 3.97 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Chiefs. The Braves starting pitcher is RHP Tim Gustafson (2-1, 5.89 ERA).
