Eight points in seven games has given Jan Stransky the Halifax Mooseheads' "Citadel Halifax Hotel Player of the Month" award for January, 2009.

The eighteen-year-old winger, returning to action after a four-game suspension, began his offensive assault with a bang, scoring a pair of goals, including the winner, while being named the game's first star in a 6-2 victory at Acadie-Bathurst Jan. 17, and followed it up with a four-point performance (2+2) and a second star selection the next afternoon in a 6-4 loss to Moncton.

Stransky's six-point weekend resulted in him being named the QMJHL Offensive Player of the Week, for the second time since joining the Mooseheads.

Stransky recorded a four-game point's scoring streak (6+2) with three game star selections between Jan 17 and 23.

In 11 games with the Mooseheads since joining the team Dec. 27, Stransky has recorded 14 points (10+4) bringing his season totals to 17 goals, 13 assists in 43 games.

Stransky received his award from Head Coach / General Manager Cam Russell at the team's monthly luncheon at the Citadel Halifax Hotel today.

At the same time, 18-year-old centre Alexis Piette received the "Scholastic Player of the Month" Award, awarded to the player who best combines talent, academic and general performance.

Piette, who scored three goals and added two assists in 11 games last month, including a three-point game against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles when he was named the game's second star in a 6-5 shootout loss, received the award from Mooseheads' Education Advisor Ross Thompson.
