Mooseheads acquire Czech forward

The Halifax Mooseheads acquired 18-year-old Czech winger Jan Stransky in a trade with the Gatineau Olympiques today, it was announced by Mooseheads' General Manager Marcel Patenaude.

In return, the Mooseheads sent their fifth round pick in the 2010 QMJHL Draft to the Olympiques. Stransky will accompany the Mooseheads on their current road trip for games in Moncton tonight (7:00 p.m., 780 KIXX) and Saint John tomorrow (4:00 p.m., 780 KIXX).

Selected by Gatineau in the first round (23) of the 2008 CHL Import Draft, Stransky has seven goals and nine assists, including five power play goals, in 32 games with the Olympiques this season. He represented his country in the 2008 Under-18 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka in Piestany, Slovakia and Hodonin, Czech Republic Aug 14 to 18, 2008.

At the same time, Patenaude announced that 17-year-old forward Guillaume Pelletier, obtained from Rimouski before Christmas, will join the team after the New Year. Pelletier is currently recuperating from a knee injury and will be out for four weeks.
