Orlando City SC News Release

Record Year

Tesho Akindele scored his eighth goal of the season last Saturday against his former club FC Dallas and is now tied with Nani for the team lead. Akindele's eight finishes in the regular-season is a career-high, having totaled seven finishes in the regular season as a part of his 2014 MLS Rookie of the Year campaign. The Canadian forward also registered an assist in the match, earning a secondary assist on Carlos Ascues's finish in stoppage time. His performance on Saturday earned him a spot on the MLS Team of the Week, the third TOTW he has received this season.

First-Time Finisher

Carlos Ascues scored his first MLS goal in Saturday's match against FC Dallas, becoming the ninth different goal-scorer for the Lions this season. Ascues has appeared in 19 matches for the Lions since joining the Club in 2018 with 18 starts. In his last five appearances for the Club, City boasts a 3-1-1 record.

Moving Up the Ranks

Sacha Kljestan registered his second assist of the season on Ascues's finish in the second minute of stoppage time on Saturday, with a clever back heel to send the Peruvian international in behind the Dallas defense. With the assist, Kljestan took sole possession of eighth in assists in MLS history with 92 in his career, passing former LA Galaxy midfielder Cobi Jones. Kljestan currently sits as the active assist leader in MLS, with Portland Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri the next closest among active players with 77.

Another Clean Sheet

The Lions recorded their sixth shutout of the season on Saturday against FC Dallas, now one shy of the Club-record of seven set in both 2015 and 2017. The shutout marked the third at home in the 2019 season for the Lions, the first when hosting Vancouver on April 20 and the next against Columbus on July 13. Goalkeeper Brian Rowe has been in goal for each of the Lions' six shutouts this season, three shy of his career-high of nine while a member of the LA Galaxy in 2016. Rowe has registered 69 saves for the Lions this season in 22 appearances in goal.
