Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Oilers announced today that the club has reassigned forward Zack Stortini to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.
Recalled from Hamilton on January 19th, Stortini made his NHL debut with the Oilers in Edmonton's 4-0 loss versus the Calgary Flames at Rexall Place on January 20th. Stortini was scoreless with 10 penalty minutes in the game.
Stortini, 21, has appeared in 42 games with Hamilton this season, posting career-highs in points (15) and goals (9), while currently leading the AHL in penalty minutes with 172. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound native of Elliot Lake, Ontario, has played 108 career AHL games with Hamilton, the former Toronto Roadrunners, Iowa Stars and Milwaukee Admirals, collecting 25 points (11-14-25) and 440 penalty minutes.
Drafted in the 3rd round, 94th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Stortini was the Edmonton Oilers fifth choice and is now in his second full professional season.
In operation since 1936, the American Hockey League is the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. Over 80 percent of NHL players are AHL graduates, and more than 350 AHL players were recalled to the NHL during the 2005-2006 season alone.
