A quick start and a steady effort the rest of the way equaled success for the BEARS Sunday. HERSHEY scored three times in the first 8:09 to turn in a 4-1 victory at GIANT Center. The win kept the Chocolate and White three points behind of Norfolk for first place with two games in hand. The BEARS also opened up a three-point lead over the third place Penguins.

The BEARS came out flying in the first period, scoring a short-handed goal just 1:01 into the game. Dave Steckel scored from Tomas Fleischmann and Dean Arsene with Chad Wiseman in the penalty box to give HERSHEY an early 1-0 lead. Jeff Schultz scored his second goal of the season from Jakub Klepis at 4:25 of the first to bolt the BEARS out to a 2-0 advantage. The lead would balloon to 3-0 at the 8:09 mark when Steckel tipped a Chris Bourque shot from the right corner for his second of the game and 16th of the season. HERSHEY outshot the Penguins 17-6 in the first period, and took a 3-0 lead to the dressing room.

The Penguins would score the only goal of the second period, despite being outshot 13-6. Kyle Brodziak scored a short-handed goal at 3:10 to get the Penguins on the board. In the third period, the BEARS would score the only goal when Chris Bourque picked up his 11th of the season. HERSHEY finished the game outshooting the Penguins 43-19, and defeated Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for the second time this season.

Notes: Schultz rejoined the lineup Sunday after being assigned by the Washington Capitals late Saturday. Goaltender Davis Parley, recalled from South Carolina (ECHL) early Sunday, was the backup goaltender Sunday. Parley became the fifth goaltender to dress for a BEARS game in 44 games this season. The two teams will meet next Wednesday, February 21 at GIANT Center. The short-handed goal allowed by the BEARS in the second period was just the second allowed by HERSHEY this season.
