Seattle Storm News Release
This Week's Opponent
Houston Comets: The Storm will look to snap a four-game skid against the Comets in the season opener this Saturday. Houston swept the three-game series last summer as Tina Thompson led the Comets in scoring in all three games, averaging 23.7 ppg against the Storm for the season. The Storm's .292 (7-17) winning percentage against the Comets is their lowest against any current opponent, though Seattle has a winning record against Houston at KeyArena (6-5). The Storm will see a familiar face on the Houston bench in former assistant coach Jessie Kenlaw, now a member of the Comets coaching staff.
Opening Night Facts and Figures
The Storm will open the season at home for the fourth consecutive season and the sixth time in eight years overall. Seattle owns a 3-4 record in both home openers and season openers, including the Storm's 90-67 win over the Sparks to tip off the season last summer. The Storm played the first home game in franchise history against the Comets on 6/1/00, falling 77-47, and opened the 2003 WNBA season in Houston with a 75-64 loss.
Bird and Wright to Visit Giddens School
Storm players Sue Bird and Tanisha Wright will host a Reading Time-Out at 3 p.m. this Tuesday, May 15 at the Giddens School (620 20th Ave. S., Seattle). The event is part of the Storm's Read to Achieve program, sponsored locally by Starbuck's Coffee Company.
Storm Host Tipoff Breakfast Wednesday
The third annual Storm Tipoff Breakfast will take place this Wednesday, May 16 from 8-9 a.m. at the Spirit of Washington Event Center (233 Burnett Ave. S., Renton). The entire Storm roster will be on hand to tip off the season and raise money to support Renton Area Youth Services.
