CHICAGO - The WNBA Chicago Sky will face the Indiana Fever in the team's third pre-season game of the 2007 season on Tuesday, May 15 at 7 p.m. at the UIC Pavilion. This is the final game before Head Coach Bo Overton finalizes the active roster for the season opener in New York on May 20.
The Sky faces Indiana after two consecutive pre-season wins. On May 2, the Sky defeated the Phoenix Mercury, 89-69, and on May 4, the Sky collected a 63-60 win over the Washington Mystics in an exhibition game at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee.
SKY HISTORY AGAINST FEVER
The Sky faced Indiana four times in 2006 and compiled a 1-3 record against the Fever. The 83-70 win over Indiana came in the Sky's final regular-season game, on August 3, 2006. Candice Dupree led the Sky with 24 points during that game, followed by 17 points from Amanda Lassiter.
FINAL ROSTER CUTS
Head Coach Bo Overton will make final roster cuts before the Sky's first regular-season game on May 20, trimming the active player roster to 11. On May 7, the Sky released Cisti Greenwalt, Christina Quaye and Chelsi Welch. On May 14, the Sky release Dionnah Jackson.
SKY HOME OPENER - MAY 22
The Sky's first regular-season game is on the road May 20 at 4 p.m. EDT (3 p.m. CDT) against the New York Liberty, followed by the home opener on May 22 at 7 p.m. against the Los Angeles Sparks at UIC Pavilion.
The Sky will debut the team's new song, "To the Sky," at the home opener. The song was written by well-known Chicago composer Gary Fry, and will be performed before the start of the game by the Soul Children of Chicago and Midwest Young Artists Voices Rising, along with the Sky Drumline.
SKY BROADCAST ANNOUNCEMENT
The Chicago Sky will hold a mini media day on Thursday, May 17 at 9:30 a.m. at the Solheim Center to announce the 2007 season broadcast partners and new TV and radio broadcast teams. The Sky players and coaching staff, including new arrivals Monique Currie, Cathy Joens and Chicago native Dominique Canty will be on hand to speak with media.
CHICAGO SKY AROUND TOWN
Thursday, May 17: From 4 to 5 p.m., Sky forward Brooke Wyckoff will appear at Toman Branch Library (2708 S. Pulaski) as part of the team's summer reading program partnership with the Chicago Public Library (CPL). The Sky will host 12 "Reading Time-Outs," with players visiting local library branches to encourage the 45,000-plus annual participants CPL's City of Big Readers Summer Reading Program. At the end of the summer, the Sky will recognize one lucky reader from each of the 79 CPL branches as part of the Chicago Sky Reading All-Star Team at a Sky game in August. At this reading, Brooke will read in Spanish to a predominately Spanish-speaking crowd. She has become fluent in Spanish while playing in Spain during the off-season.
Friday, May 18: Sky CEO Margaret Stender, Armintie Price, Carla Thomas and assistant coach Stephanie White are participating in the Oxygen Network Mentor Walk. The walk, which kicks off at 6 a.m. in Millennium Park, brings together high- profile women business leaders from a variety of professions to walk--and talk--with other women who share their passion and dream of breaking into that field.
