Guelph Storm News Release
A busy weekend with three games in three days saw the Storm pick up four of a possible six points. The Storm defeated the Owen Sound Attack 4-1 on home ice in front of 4,400 on Friday night cushioning their lead in the standings, at the time, to three ahead of the Attack. Drew Doughty scored twice and Tim Priamo recorded three assists in the win. Saturday night in Barrie the Storm beat the Colts 5-2 picking up a very important two points. Matt Kennedy scored twice and Cody St. Jacques recorded his fifth win of the season. The Kitchener Rangers were the third team the Storm faced last weekend. At the Sleeman Centre on Sunday afternoon in front of 4,898, the Storm played a very solid game against the CHL's top team. The Storm lead 2-1 until midway through the second when the Rangers scored three unanswered goals and defeated Guelph 4-2. With four points on the weekend the Storm improved their record to 17-17-5-3 with 42 points. They currently sit third in the Midwest Division, four points ahead of the Owen Sound Attack and six behind the London Knights.
Tim Priamo Grand and Toy Player of the Week- Priamo recorded three assists in Friday night's win over the Owen Sound Attack. The 19 year old was in on three of the four Storm goals and was named the third star of the game. Saturday night in Barrie, Priamo helped to kick start his team to a 5-2 victory by assisting on the fist goal of the game. Held off the scoresheet on Sunday, the Guelph native had an overall solid defensive weekend recording a +2 rating. In 30 games so far this season, Priamo has recorded 14 points, six goals and eight assists.
Thursday, January 17th: Guelph Storm at Windsor Spitfires, 7:30 pm
The Storm travel to Windsor for the second time on Thursday to face off against the Spitfires. These two teams have played each other three times this year with the Storm leading the regular season series two games to one winning by scores of 5-2 and 1-0 in overtime. The Spitfires won the first contest this season 5-2 in Windsor back in October. Thursdays match-up is the final game between these clubs this year. Windsor currently sits second in the Western Conference with a record of 24-11-5-3.
Friday, January 18th: Plymouth Whalers at Guelph Storm, 7:30 pm
Friday's game against the Plymouth Whalers marks the third time Guelph has played Plymouth this season. So far, the Whalers are leading the regular season series two games to none winning both games by scores of 4-2 and 3-1 respectively. After Friday night's match-up, the next game between these clubs is on March 7th when the Whalers travel to Guelph for a 7:30 pm start. The Whalers currently have a record of 23-14-2-2 and 50 points to sit third in the West Division.
Town Hall Meeting
After the game on Friday night in Draught Picks, the Guelph Storm will host the second installment of the "Town Hall Meetings" of the 2007-08 season. Storm Owner Chris Cuthbert will conduct an interview with one Storm player, President Rick Hoyle will be on hand as well as Head Coach/GM Dave Barr to answer any questions or concerns fans in attendance may have.
Sunday, January 20th: Erie Otters at Guelph Storm, 2:00 pm
The Erie Otters travel to Guelph for the second time this season on Sunday afternoon. These two clubs have
played each other three times so far this season with Guelph leading the regular season series two games
to one. After Sunday, two more contests remain one on February 17th and the other, the Storm's last game
of the season, is on March 15th at 7:30 pm in Erie.
Grandparents Day
Sunday afternoon against the Erie Otters, the Storm will host a handful of Guelph Storm players'
grandparents as they help celebrate Grandparents Day at the Storm. They will take in the action and get
to watch their grandsons from a luxury suite at the Sleeman Centre.
Skate with the Storm
On Sunday January 20th the Storm will pair up with CNIB for a Skate with the Storm at the Sleeman Centre following the game against the Erie Otters. The funds raised will enable the CNIB to continue providing essential services to blind and visually impaired individuals living in Wellington and surrounding area. For a minimum $125 in pledges, participants receive a complimentary ticket to the home game against the Erie Otters, a replica Storm Jersey, a 40-minute skate session and the opportunity to skate in one of the top OHL arenas with current Storm players. Top fundraisers receive further incentives and prizes. The Minor hockey team that raises the most pledges will receive a pizza party and the opportunity to visit a storm practice along with a tour of the Sleeman Centre.
Family 4 Pack
- Family 4 Pack is back for another season. For all Sunday games during the 2007/08 Storm season the Guelph Storm will offer the $50 Family 4 Pack - over $20 worth of savings. Bring the family to any Sunday afternoon game during the 2007/08 regular season and receive four Storm family day tickets (2 adult/2child), two large soft drinks and two large popcorn as well as two Gametime Magazines.
Lunch with your Favourite Storm Player - Saturday January 19th
For the past month at every home game, Storm fans have had the opportunity to place a bid at a silent auction to win the chance at having lunch with their favourite Storm player. Saturday afternoon at East Side Mario's, the winners of the silent auction will get that chance. Starting at 2:30 pm, Storm players will be in attendance to eat lunch, mingle, sign autographs and take pictures with fans. All proceeds raised from the lunch will go directly to the Guelph Storm Adopt A School Program - providing tickets to local elementary schools for fundraising initiatives and rewards for students.
Drew Doughty and Thomas McCollum to Attend Top Prospects Game
Drew Doughty and Thomas McCollum were named to the Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects Roster on Wednesday. The roster of 40 players will compete in the 2008 Home Hardware CHL-NHL Top Prospects Game at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta on January 22 and 23.
The rosters are selected by the 30 NHL general managers as well as the NHL's Central Scouting department. "The Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game is a major event where scouts can see all the premier draft-eligible players in Major Junior hockey compete head-to-head," said NHL Central Scouting Director, E.J. McGuire. Drew Doughty and Mike Caruso Named to OHL All-Star Roster
The Ontario Hockey League announced on Tuesday the roster for the 2008 OHL All-Star Classic to be held in Sault Ste. Marie on February 5th and 6th. Storm defencemen Drew Doughty and Mike Caruso have been selected to represent the OHL Western Conference in the event.
