Guelph Storm News Release
This past weekend the Storm hosted the Owen Sound Attack on Friday night and traveled to Plymouth on Saturday to face off against the Whalers. The Storm picked up one point on Friday by forcing overtime at 14:33 of the third. Caruso would tie up the game with a nice solo effort, but the Storm eventually fell to the Attack in the extra frame when Scott Tregunna beat Cody St.Jacques for his sixth of the season handing the Attack the extra point. On Saturday night in Plymouth two Storm rookies, Taylor Beck and Peter Holland, led the team in scoring with two points apiece. Guelph out shot their opponents 31-17, but couldn't find the back of the net more than twice losing to the Whalers 4-2. With one point on the weekend the Storm now have a record of 8-9-3-0 and 19 points. They currently sit third in the Midwest division, five points behind the London Knights.
Friday, November 16th: Guelph Storm at Ottawa 67s, 7:30 pm
- Friday night the Storm travel to Ottawa to take on the 67s for the first of two contests this season. The Storm host the next match-up at the Sleeman Centre on Friday, February 22nd. Last season the two teams split the regular season series with a win a piece. The 67s currently have a record of 8-9-0-2 with 18 points, one point less than the Storm.
Saturday, November 17th: Guelph Storm at Belleville Bulls, 7:15 pm
- The Storm travel to Belleville for the only time this season. The Bulls make their lone visit to Guelph next Friday, November 23rd. Belleville swept the regular season series last year winning both games by scores of 2-1 and 4-3. So far this year the Bulls have a record of 11-5-1-1 and are second in the Eastern Division with 24 points.
Sunday, November 18th: Guelph Storm at Kingston Frontenacs, 2:00 pm
- The final game of the Storm's Eastern Swing is on Sunday when they visit the Kingston Memorial Centre for the only time this season. The Frontenacs make their lone regular season visit to Guelph on December 31st, New Year's Eve Day, at 2:00 pm. Last season the Storm won the regular season series winning both games by scores of 7-5 and 3-2. Kingston currently has a record of 6-12-0-1and 13 points.
Boston Pizza Toys for Tots-Holiday Collection Drive
Next Friday, November 23rd when the Belleville Bulls visit the Sleeman Centre the Guelph Storm are pleased to host the Boston Pizza Toys for Tots night. The Storm encourage all fans in attendance to donate a toy for the Holiday Collection Drive. With every toy donated, Boston Pizza in Guelph will give away a voucher for a free kid's meal. One lucky minor hockey team will win the opportunity to go head-to-head with the Storm at the Sleeman Centre in a 'once in a lifetime' game of shinny including full pre-game introductions through the 'Storm Tunnel', a dressing room tour and a 'Meet & Greet' with the entire team.
RBC Scholastic Achievement Awards
The Guelph Storm are delighted to partner with RBC for the second consecutive year to offer a Grade 12 student that plays on a High School or community hockey team the chance to win a $5,000 scholarship towards University or College studies next year. Through RBC's Scholastic Achievement Award Program, RBC will provide a scholarship award to one male Grade 12 student and one female Grade 12 student from Guelph and surrounding communities.
Value and Duration of the Awards
Up to $5,000 CDN over four academic years for College or University studies if the overall average of 70% is maintained. The scholarship will provide $1,000 a year for the first three years and $2,000 for the fourth year.
Scholarship Criteria
The student must be a grade 12 student graduating in June 2008 and registered in Minor Hockey or High School Hockey for the 2007-08 season. In addition the applicant must be planning full-time attendance at an accredited Canadian university or College starting no later than September 2008. A minimum of 70% (B average) at mid-term in Grade 12 is necessary to qualify as well as no game misconduct penalties during the current season. Winner of "Name the Mascot Contest" Recognized at Storm Game
The Guelph Storm recognized Sam Kinsella as the winner of the Guelph Mercury "Name the Mascot Contest" in an on ice presentation before the game against the Owen Sound Attack on Friday night. The seven year old's entry was just one of a number of Stormy submissions and was selected via a random draw. For his part in naming the second mascot, Sam was awarded with a $250 shopping spree at Spyke's Sports Shop and a personalized Storm jersey. High School Hockey Shootout
For the second consecutive year the Guelph Storm are proud to host the RBC High School Hockey Shootout. During the first intermission of the Storm's home game against the Owen Sound Attack, Orangeville District Secondary School faced off against Centre Wellington District High School. Centre Wellington defeated Orangeville and were crowned the winner of the first installment of the shootout as they defeated their opponents 2-0.
Throughout the course of the season high schools in and around the Guelph area will compete in a shoot out during either the first or second intermission of a Storm game. The finals will be held on March 7th during the first intermission of the game against the Plymouth Whalers.
Tickets for Served by the Storm Going Fast
Get your tickets to this popular event now...tickets are going fast and it is very close to being sold out. Casey's Bar & Grill (494 Edinburgh Road South) will host this event on Monday, November 26th. Tickets can be purchased at the Guelph Storm table behind section 116 at every Storm home game. Ticket prices for the "Served By The Storm" Dinner including meal, non-alcoholic refreshments, dessert and gratuity are $20 per ticket. For more information call 519-837-9690. Guelph Tribune Design a Storm Goalie Mask Contest
The Guelph Storm is pleased to announce that the Guelph Tribune Design a Goalie Mask Contest will be back for the second year in a row. Starting November 5th until November 30th the Guelph Storm will be looking for a winner of the contest sponsored by the Guelph Tribune.
Submitted designs will be judged on overall concept, originality and colour harmony. The GRAND PRIZE winner will be announced in an on-ice presentation prior to the Guelph Storm home game on Sunday, January 13th versus the Kitchener Rangers. A second version of the winning design will be created and presented to a Guelph Storm goaltender during the presentation and will be worn for the rest of the 2007-08 season. The winner will also receive a custom painted goalie mask featuring the winning design signed by the Guelph Storm Hockey Club. Completed entry forms and design concepts can be mailed or dropped off in person to the Guelph Storm business offices. The contest is only open to legal residents of Canada who are 16 years of age or younger.
