Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors continue to be a fairly depleted bunch; however, they put together a solid effort against the OHL-leading Kitchener Rangers this evening. Unfortunately, they didn't get any points to show for it, falling 5-2. With the loss, their record dips to 7-11-1-0 on the year.

Kitchener's Nick Spaling jumpstarted the scoring at 4:39 of the 1st period with a power-play goal to give the visitors an early lead. Then, he notched another tally on the man-advantage at 8:05 of the 2nd period before Mike Mascioli knocked home a rebound chance at 14:20 to put the Rangers up 3-0.

In the 3rd period, Kitchener's Matt Halischuk (power-play) and Steven Tarasuk each found the back of the net, at 4:45 and 8:17, respectively, to give the Rangers a commanding 5-0 lead. However, the Majors didn't quit as Casey Cizikas got Mississauga on the board shortly afterward, at 8:45, with the assists going to Matt McCready and Kaspars Daugavins. Then, Tim Billingsley added a second goal, on the power-play, at 17:29 off of Daugavins and Rob Kwiet support. However, that's as close as St. Mike's could get on this night.

The Majors can take some consolation in the fact that they're the only team this season that has been able to outshoot the Rangers as they produced a 31-25 margin this evening. The goaltenders were Anthony Grieco for Mississauga and Josh Unice for Kitchener.

The Majors power-play was 1 for 6 while Kitchener went 3 for 6. The game's three stars were Spaling (1st), Halishuk (2nd) and Cizikas (3rd).

The Majors host the Saginaw Spirit this Friday evening (November 16) at 7:30 p.m. Then, they travel to Sudbury to battle the Wolves on Sunday afternoon (November 18) at 2 p.m.

Majors tickets can be purchased through the Hershey Centre box office two hours prior to the puck drop on game-days or during regular business hours or by logging on to the Majors web site (www.stmichaelsmajors.com).
