The Storm capped off a perfect week on Tuesday with a 2-1 overtime win against the Kitchener Rangers. Thomas McCollum earned first star honours in the win stopping 33 shots and playing a solid game. Mike McLean put the game away for the Storm scoring 1:17 into overtime on the power play to give Guelph a much deserved two points. Friday night the Toronto St. Michael's Majors visited the GSEC for the first time this season losing to the Storm in front of a home crowd of 4, 104. Jeff Hayes recorded his first career OHL goal scoring the game winner shorthanded to give the Storm the win. Cody St. Jacques got his sixth start and third win in net on Sunday afternoon against the Kingston Frontenacs. Matt Kennedy scored twice, Mike McLean recorded three assists and Ryan Parent scored his first goal of the season in the 4-2 victory. With six points on the week, Guelph improved their record to 22-15-1-4 with 47 points and now sit third in the Midwest Division, four points ahead of the Owen Sound Attack.

Guelph Storm Grand & Toy Player of the Week (Week ending December 31st)

Matt Kennedy-The Shanty Bay native finished the week with two goals and one assist for three points in two games. Through 36 games this season, the 17 year old has 7 goals and 8 assists for 15 points. The first year forward was held off the scoresheet to start the week against the Majors on Friday, but managed to maintain a +1 rating. On Sunday afternoon at home, the 17 year scored twice, including the game winner, and recorded an assist while registering a +3 rating. Sunday's game marked Kennedy's first three point game of his young OHL career.

Friday January 12th: Sarnia Sting at Guelph Storm, 7:30 pm

Friday night the Sarnia Sting visit the GSEC for the second and final time this season. These two teams face off against each other one more time during regular season play when the Storm travel to Sarnia for the third last game of the year, March 10th. Sarnia won the first 3-2 in Overtime while the Storm took the second 7-3. Grant McGee, Tim Priamo and Jamie Arniel picked up two goals each in the victory. With 55 points and a record of 26-11-1-2, the Sting sit second in the West Division, two points behind the Plymouth Whalers.

Saturday January 13th: Guelph Storm at Erie Otters, 7:30 pm

Guelph travels to Tullio Arena on Saturday night to face off against the Erie Otters for the fourth time this season. The last match-up saw the Storm defeat the Otters 6-3 in Guelph. Jamie Arniel had two goals in the game and the Storm outshot the Otters 36-19. The first two contests belonged to the Otters who beat the Storm 6-5 in a shootout on home ice and 2-1 in Guelph. The Otters travel to Guelph for the next contest between these two clubs on January 21st.

Storm Make a Pair of Trades

The Guelph Storm Hockey Club announced that they have acquired import overage player Anton Hedman from the Owen Sound Attack for an 8th round draft pick in the 2007 OHL Priority Selection.

Hedman was drafted by Sudbury 37th overall in the first round of the 2005 CHL Import Draft and was traded to the Owen Sound Attack in August 2006. The overage power forward was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 8th round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

The Guelph Storm Hockey Club have also announced this afternoon that they have acquired two second round picks from the Belleville Bulls in exchange for overage left winger Tyler Doig. The acquired picks are in the second rounds of the 2007 and the 2008 OHL Priority Selections.

Ryan Parent and Team Canada Golden Again

Guelph Storm defenceman Ryan Parent and Team Canada captured gold for the second year in a row at the World Junior Championship. The gold medal is Canada's 13th at the World Junior Championship, and first on European soil since a 1997 triumph in Geneva, SUI. The 13 gold medals are the second-most ever at

the event, just one behind Russia, formerly the Soviet Union, who have won 14. Of the 13 gold medals awarded, a Guelph Storm player has represented Canada for six of them. Canada has now run their winning streak at the IIHF World Junior Championship to 18 games, which ties the all-time Canadian record set between 1994 and 1997.

Ryan MacDonald Shines in Rookie Season

Guelph Storm graduate Ryan MacDonald been named the ECHL Saver of the Month for December. Currently playing for the Fresno Falcons, this is Macdonald's second league-wide honour in the last three days after he was named ECHL Goaltender of the Week on Wednesday.

MacDonald finished December at 7-0-1 with goals-against average of 1.67 and a save percentage of .948, helping the Falcons into first place in the Pacific Division and first place in the National Conference. In December, the 5-foot-9 and 185-pound MacDonald was 3-0-1 at home and 4-0-0 on the road. He ranks second in the ECHL in goals-against average at 2.45 and first in save percentage of .928.

Storm Alum ni are AHL All-Stars

Storm alumni Marty St. Pierre, Ryan Callahan and Dan Girardi have been named to the AHL All-Star team roster for the 2007 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic, to be played later this month at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto. The game features a Canadian team comprised of players born in Canada facing off against PlanetUSA which is a team made of players born outside of Canada.

St. Pierre and Girardi will compete for the Canadian team while Callahan will represent PlanetUSA. This will be St. Pierre's second AHL All-Star game having played last year at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg Manitoba. Callahan, in his rookie season, got the nod for his first AHL All-Star game after putting up team leading numbers with 22 goals and 11 assists for 33 points in 35 games played. Callahan's teammate Girardi was awarded with a starting spot in the line-up after having an excellent first half of the season with one goal and 20 assists for 21 points. AHL fans determined the starting lineups via on-line balloting at theahl.com, while a committee of AHL coaches selected the remainder of the rosters.
