Barrie Colts News Release

Barrie, ON- The Barrie Colts today announced they have made a pair of deals prior to the 6:00 p.m. trade deadline.

In a first move, the club sent their 2nd Round Pick in 2009 and their 9th Round Pick in 2010 to the Windsor Spitfires in exchange for 18-year old forward Cory McGillis and 19-year old defenseman Chris Purves.

In a separate deal, the Colts sent 19-year old winger Matthieu Methot and goaltending prospect Adam Courchaine to the Ottawa 67's in exchange for Kitchener's 3rd Round Pick in 2007 and Ottawa's own 8th Round Pick in 2008.

"We believe we solidified our roster moving ahead, and did so in a manner where we didn't have to sacrifice too much of our future," stated Head Coach Marty Williamson. "In McGillis and Purves, we obtained two quality players that will add depth to both ends, and in dealing Methot to Ottawa, we recouped some draft picks and gave a local kid a chance to finish his OHL career in his hometown."

McGillis was Windsor's 1st Round Pick in the 2005 OHL Priority Selection, and has registered eleven goals to go along with eleven assists and 97 penalty minutes in 35 games this season with the Spitfires. The 6.01, 221-pound native of Coniston, ON has appeared in 134 career OHL games and acquired 23 goals to go along with 30 assists and 261 penalty minutes.

Purves is a 6.03, 186-pound second year defenseman who has appeared in 18 games this season and recorded 18 penalty minutes. Last season with the Spitfires, he registered one goal and one assist to go along with 47 penalty minutes in 43 games.
