Storm Set to Host Force on Painted Ice

January 14, 2022 - United States Hockey League (USHL) - Tri-City Storm News Release

KEARNEY, NE - The Tri-City Storm is set to host the Fargo Force tonight at the Viaero Center following the organization's annual "Paint the Ice" event on Wednesday. Fans participated in the event by writing many messages of support and remembrance for family members, friends, and others affected by cancer. The Storm will play two games on the painted ice this weekend before completing the weekend with a road game on Sunday against the Omaha Lancers. Tonight's game is also a $5 Kids Friday. The Viaero Center and the Tri-City Storm will host a postgame skate session on the painted ice following the matchup. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.

Tri-City (22-5-1-0) will protect home ice tonight against the Fargo Force after posting back-to-back road wins last weekend over the Des Moines Buccaneers and Waterloo Black Hawks. The Storm defeated its opponents by a 10-2 margin and returns home to the Viaero Center having won eight of the last ten games. Tri-City has now won four straight games for the first time since November and enters tonight's home game against the Force as the first-place team in the USHL's Western Conference standings. The last Tri-City winning streak of four or more games was a nine-game winning streak that was snapped by the Force at Scheels Arena on November 27th by a final score of 5-4 (OT). Tri-City is 11-9-1-0 over the past five seasons in head-to-head matchups against Fargo. Tonight's game marks the first time the Force has played a game at the Viaero Center since May 2nd, 2021. The Force won a closely contested Western Conference Semifinal series to eliminate the Storm from the 2021 Clark Cup Playoffs. Tri-City has captured three of a possible four points through the opening two games of this year's eight-game season series. Mitchell Miller (2), Gavin Brindley, Ilya Nikolaev, Nate Benoit, Christian Fitzgerald, and Lleyton Roed all netted goals during November's two-game weekend series at Scheels Arena.

Fargo (12-13-3-1) travels to the Viaero Center for back-to-back road games against Tri-City after collecting wins in seven of its last ten games played. Only the Storm has posted more wins during that span than the Force of teams in the USHL's Western Conference. Based on each team's record over the past ten games, tonight's battle will be a matchup between the two hottest teams in the conference. Last weekend, Fargo won back-to-back road games over the Sioux City Musketeers and Sioux Falls Stampede after dropping the opening matchup of the three-game weekend to the Omaha Lancers. Fargo has climbed to sixth in the conference standings and will play its fifth consecutive road game tonight at the Viaero Center. The Force will host the Storm again on February 11th and February 12th before making an additional trip to Kearney to close out the eight-game season series against the Storm on March 11th and March 12th. Bret Link (2), Charlie Lurie, Thomas Weis, Luke Gramer, Joe Palodichuk, and Tyler Rollwagen have each scored goals against the Storm to this point in the season.

Tonight's game is set to begin at 7:05pm CT and will be streamed on HockeyTV, and Storm Radio. #StormAhead
