
Caps Set to Meet Roughriders for First Time this Season

The Madison Capitols (14-15-2) are set to battle the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (12-14-1) this weekend for the first time in the 2021-22 campaign. The two Eastern Conference opponents will faceoff in a home-and-home series with tonight's game at Cedar Rapids Ice Arena and then tomorrow night at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena.
After last Saturday's loss to Muskegon, the Caps fell below the 500 mark for the first time this season, since September. The Caps are currently sitting at fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 30 points while Cedar Rapids is fighting for playoff positioning in seventh with 25 points. Madison will look to get back to their winning ways this weekend going up against a RoughRiders team that is allowing 3.37 goals per game.
Coming into tonight's contest, the Capitols have scored 45 more goals than the RoughRiders this season. Cedar Rapids has a goal differential of -16.
On the special teams side of things. The Caps own the 4th ranked power play in the USHL. Madison's power play is operating at 24.0% while the RoughRiders have the last ranked power play in the East at 17.8 percent.
When it comes to offensive production, the Caps are led by Cornell commit, Nick DeSantis. DeSantis has tallied 29 points (11G, 18) in 30 games. The Caps forward enters tonight having recorded a point in five of his last games played.
On the defensive side of the puck, Luke Mittelstadt has put together a top tier season far for the Caps. His 28 points ranks 4th among USHL blueliners while his 10 goals is 3rd best in the league among defensemen.
Puck drop is slated for 7:05 both nights.
