Storm Set for Three-Game Home Series against Buccaneers
Kearney, NE. - The Tri-City Storm returns home tonight to the Viaero Center for "Agriculture" night following last weekend's sweep of rival Lincoln. Tonight's game is the first game of a three-game home weekend for the Storm. Tri-City (30-13-2-1) can clinch a spot in the 2021 Clark Cup Playoffs tonight with a home victory over the Des Moines Buccaneers. Last weekend, Tri-City completed a two-game sweep of the Lincoln Stars to remain the 1st place team in the USHL's Western Conference standings. The Storm has now won a season-high eight consecutive games. This year's Storm team is closing in on tying the organization's record for consecutive wins during a single season. Ten consecutive wins has been recorded twice in team history, once by the 2003-2004 Anderson Cup Championship team and once by the 2014-2015 team. Tonight's game between the Storm and the Buccaneers will be the third head-to-head matchup of the season and the first at the Viaero Center. It has been five hundred and twenty-three days since Tri-City last played a home game against the Des Moines Buccaneers. Tri-City dropped an 8-4 decision against Des Moines on November 9th, 2019 in the last matchup between the two teams played at the Viaero Center. Following tonight's home game against the Buccaneers, the Tri-City will face off against Des Moines tomorrow at 7:05pm and Sunday at 4:05pm. Des Moines (23-19-4-0) visits the Viaero Center tonight for the first time this season following a 5-1 home loss to the Lincoln Stars on Tuesday. Simon Mack netted the Buccaneers' only goal in the loss. Des Moines has now lost four consecutive games and enters tonight's game as the 5th place team in the Western Conference standings. Des Moines is 5-6-0-0 against the Storm in head-to-head matchups played at the Viaero Center over the past five seasons. The Buccaneers hold a 10-8-3 record in road games played this season. Last season, Des Moines dropped three of the four games played in the season series against Tri-City. In the last matchup between the Storm and the Buccaneers, Des Moines recorded a season-high ninety-one penalty minutes and dropped the game by a final score of 5-1. Following this weekend's road series against the Storm, the Buccaneers complete play in the 2020-2021 regular season with back-to-back road games against the Waterloo Black Hawks next weekend.
