April 16, 2021 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Fargo Force News Release
The Force played a solid 60 minutes of hockey, topping the BlackHawks 4-2 in night one of the two game series. A three goal second period and a dominant defensive performance helped give the Force their 29th win of the season.
Period one was a back and forth between the two teams for a majority of the opening 20 minutes. Waterloo had a powerplay midway through the first after a boarding call against Fargo but it was quickly killed off by the Force. With 17 seconds remaining, Fargo defenseman Jack Peart banged in his first ever USHL goal, giving Fargo a 1-0 lead to close the opening frame.
Period two was all Fargo, posting three goals and outshooting Waterloo 20-6. Owen Gallatin kicked off the scoring just a minute and 16 seconds into the period, he fired one home off a pretty feed from Cody Monds giving Fargo a 2-0 lead. 27 seconds later Bear Hughes extended that lead to 3-0. He scored on a two man rush down the ice, cutting across the crease and sliding one past the left side of Waterloo's netminder.
Midway through the second the BlackHawks added their first tally of the game thanks to a goal from Mason Reiners, but it wasn't long before the Force took back their 3-point lead. At 16:30 in the second period Owen Gallatin fired in his second goal of the game from the high slot straight out of a faceoff. The period closed with a 4-1 Fargo lead, momentum heavily on the home team's side.
With a little under seven minutes remaining in the third the BlackHawks tacked on a powerplay goal bringing the score to 4-2. They also stepped up their SOG outshooting the Force 12-5, but it wasn't enough to catch up. The Fargo Force came away with a 4-2 win and will look to carry that momentum into tomorrow night's rematch, puck drop tomorrow is at 7:05 PM
