Storm Selects Quigley and Beck in 2008 WNBA Draft

SEATTLE, Wednesday, April 9, 2008 - The Seattle Storm selected Allie Quigley from DePaul University with the 22nd pick, and Kimberly Beck from George Washington University with the 36th pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft. The WNBA Draft was held today in Tampa, Fla., at the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club.

Quigley, a 5-11 guard, was selected as an All-Big East First Team performer this season, and named to the Second Team during the 2006 and 2007 seasons. She was also named the Big East Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2008. The Joliet, Ill., native averaged 19.4 points, 3.9 assists and 5.1 rebounds per game during her senior season. Quigley was an efficient shooter from the floor last season as well, shooting 36.3 percent from three-point range, and 86.5 percent from the free throw line. The two-time invitee to the USA Basketball National Team trials was the only player for DePaul to play and start in all 32 games for the Blue Demons last year.

Quigley had an illustrious high school career as well. She was named the Chicago Sun-Times high school Athlete of the Year in her senior season, and she was also named a Street and Smith's, AAU and Nike All-American, while being named a McDonald's All-American nominee.

"We're very happy with our picks in today's draft," Storm Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Brian Agler said. "We watched Allie Quigley very close in the Big East Tournament and we were very impressed with how she played. Kimberly Beck is a point guard who can score and distribute the ball. They both give us some depth in the backcourt at the point guard and shooting guard spots. Allie and Kimberly will be joining a good group of veterans at training camp and both will adapt to the pro game very quickly."

Beck, a 5-8 guard, was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year during her senior season. She was also selected to the All-Conference First Team and the All-Defensive team for the second straight year. She was also selected to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's All-American Honorable Mention team.

The Atlanta, Ga., native averaged 12.8 points and 6.2 assists per game her senior season. She was an effective shooter, knocking down 40 percent of her field goals and 79.5 percent from the free throw line. She also averaged 2.15 steals per game. Beck was one of three finalists for the Nancy Lieberman Award, and was named to the Associated Press All-American Honorable Mention Team in 2007.

The Seattle Storm will open its 2008 WNBA campaign at home at KeyArena on Saturday, May 17 when they play host to the Chicago Sky. 2008 will mark the ninth season for the Storm, who will play on national television four times this season including two broadcasts on ABC and two on ESPN2. Highlighting the Storm's national television coverage is a home game against Western Conference rival Sacramento on May 20 from KeyArena.

Weekends will be busy at KeyArena this season as 11 of the 17 regular season Storm home games will be played on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The weekend matchups include the four-time WNBA Champion Houston Comets on Sunday, June 1, the Eastern Conference Champion Detroit Shock on Saturday, June 7 and the return of Lisa Leslie and the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday, July 12.
