
Storm Players Hard at Work During Olympic Break

SEATTLE, Friday, August 15, 2008 - The Seattle Storm is reaching out to Puget Sound fans as the Olympic Break draws to a close, and the playoff push begins in the WNBA. Players from the Storm will be on hand at various community events in the next week, signing autographs, promoting health and environmental consciousness, good reading habits and overall back-to-school excitement.
"We are excited about resuming our season after the Olympic Break," said Storm CEO Karen Bryant. "This week's events provide more opportunity for us to connect with our community, and we're looking forward to continuing the momentum we created before the break. We encourage fans to support the team, with only three regular-season home games remaining as we make a run for our fifth consecutive WNBA Playoffs appearance."
Scheduled Storm community events in the coming week include:
- Tuesday, Aug. 19 - Forward Sheryl Swoopes and guard Tanisha Wright will host a Reading Timeout, sponsored by Starbucks Coffee , from 3-4 p.m. at the Wallingford Boys & Girls Club.
- Thursday, Aug. 21 - Forward Sheryl Swoopes will sign autographs for fans on behalf of WNBA and Storm sponsor Beringer Wines from 3-4 p.m. at the QFC in Redmond on 164th Avenue N.E.
- Friday, Aug. 22 - Guard Tanisha Wright, center Yolanda Griffith and mascot Doppler will sign autographs at the Bartell Drugs store in upper Queen Anne from 4:30-6 p.m. in support of "School Tools for Kids in Need," a Back-to-School campaign with Bartell Drugs, STAR 101.5 FM and World Vision.

- Saturday, Aug. 23 - Forward Shyra Ely and center Ashley Robinson will greet fans and help Starbucks sample its new Vivanno⢠Nourishing Blends at Seattle Parks and Recreation's "Healthy Parks, Healthy You" kick-off event at Green Lake from 2-3 p.m.
- Sunday, Aug. 24 - Forward Sheryl Swoopes, center Ashley Robinson and guard Kristen O'Neill will be on hand at Lake Sammamish State Park to promote the Storm's Go Green initiative, along with Carter Subaru and Mountains to Sound Greenway, from 12-2 p.m. In addition, O'Neill and center Yolanda Griffith will serve as the Moyer Foundation Celebrity Waiters for Cancer, at the Union Square Grill in Seattle from 5-6:30 p.m.
