Storm Open Home Weekend with 5-1 Win over Musketeers

Kearney, NE - The Tri-City Storm opened a five game homestand at the Viaero Center with a 5-1 win over the Sioux City Musketeers on Friday night. In the win, Storm Captain Connor McMenamin scored two goals and was named the 1st Star of the Game. Tri-City also got goals from Khristian Acosta, Colton Kalezic, and Brendan Furry in the win. Jake Barczewski made 17 saves on 18 shots to record the win in goal. Tomorrow night, Tri-City hosts the team's annual "Taste of Nebraska" promotion at the Viaero Center. Tickets are still available and can be purchased through www.stormhockey.com . Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.

Connor McMenamin opened the scoring just over eleven minutes into the 1st period on a goal assisted by Chase McLane. The goal was McMenamin's 21st of the 2018-2019 regular season and was scored at 11:01 of the 1st period. The Storm outshot the Musketeers 12-5 in the opening twenty minutes of the game and carried a one goal lead into the 2nd period. Khristian Acosta scored the only goal of the 2nd period to increase the Tri-City lead to 2-0. Acosta's 7th goal of the season was scored at 5:27 of the period and was assisted by Colby Ambrosio. The Storm outshot the Musketeers 14-4 in the 2nd period and led 2-0 entering the 3rd.

At the 12:15 mark of the 3rd period, Colton Kalezic scored his 11th goal of the season to give the Storm a three-goal lead. Kalezic's goal was scored on the power play and was assisted by Keaton Pehrson and Joe Molenaar. Minutes later, Tri-City took a 4-0 lead in the game on Brendan Furry's 17th goal of the season. The goal was scored at 14:04 of the 3rd period and was assisted by Zac Jones and Shane Pinto. Just over a minute after the Storm's 4th goal of the night, Sioux City netted a goal to cut the Storm lead to 4-1. The goal was scored by Bobby Brink at 15:24 of the 3rd period and would be the Musketeers' only scoring play of the game. Connor McMenamin scored his 2nd goal of the game and 22nd goal of the season at 16:05 of the 3rd period to put the Storm up by four goals. McMenamin's goal was assisted by Colton Kalezic, and Tri-City closed out a 5-1 win over Sioux City at the Viaero Center.

Tri-City outshot Sioux City 36-18 in the game and increased its regular season record to 37-10-2-1. Following Muskegon's overtime loss to Dubuque, the Storm also increased its lead in the USHL's league standings. With 12 games to play in the regular season, Tri-City now holds a three-point advantage over Muskegon in the league standings, and a nine-point lead over Sioux Falls in the Western Conference standings.
