
Storm Defeat Rival Lancers in Overtime, Clinch Corn Cup

Kearney, NE. - The Tri-City Storm defeated the Omaha Lancers in overtime on Sunday to clinch the 2020 Corn Cup. Guillaume Richard scored the overtime game-winning goal to give the Storm the 3-2 win. Tri-City has now won its first four games in the Corn Cup. Sam Rhodes and Nikolai Mayorov also scored goals in the Storm's win over its rival Lancers. Ryan Ouellette made 17 saves on 19 Omaha shots to record the win in net for Tri-City.
Sam Rhodes scored the game's opening goal at 11:23 of the 1st period on a goal assisted by Caden Villegas. Tri-City outshot Omaha 10-5 in the 1st period and carried a one goal lead into the 2nd period. In the 2nd period, Omaha tied the game at 1-1 on a goal by Tyler Carpenter. Carpenter's goal was scored at 7:51 of the 2nd period and was assisted by Ryan Lautenbach and Noah Carlin. Minutes later, at 11:02 of the 2nd period, the Storm regained the lead on a goal by Nikolai Mayorov. Mayorov's goal was his first of the Corn Cup and was assisted by Victor Czerneckianair and Cole O'Hara. Tri-City was outshot 11-10 by Omaha in the 2nd period, but the Storm entered the 3rd period with a 2-1 lead.
The only goal of Sunday's 3rd period was scored by Omaha's Noah Carlin. Carlin's goal was scored with less than six minutes to play and was assisted by Tyler Carpenter. The goal was netted at the 14:10 mark of the period and forced overtime. In overtime, Tri-City outshot the Lancers 3-0 and won the game at the 1:28 mark of the overtime period. After receiving a pass from teammate Carter Mazur, Guillaume Richard created a rush into the zone and buried a back-hand goal behind Lancers goaltender Arseni Sergeyev. Richard's goal was assisted by Carter Mazur and was his 3rd goal of the 2020 Corn Cup.
Ryan Ouellette record his second win of the 2020 Corn Cup after making 17 saves on 19 shots. Sam Rhodes was named the game's 3rd Star after scoring the opening goal of the game. Omaha's Tyler Carpenter recorded 2nd Star honors for a one goal, one assist, performance. Guillaume Richard was named the 1st Star of the Game after netting the game-winning goal in overtime.
