Western Conference Quarterfinals

GUELPH LEADS SERIES 2-1

GAME 1:

Guelph Stormed into Plymouth to take on the Whalers for Game one of the Western Conference Quarterfinals. Jason Dickinson opened the scoring on the powerplay at 16:55 of the first period. Brock McGinn got his first of the post season at 1:04 of the second. Andrey Pedan scored under 5 minutes later to put the Storm up 3-0 early in the second period. Plymouth got on the board with a short handed goal from Aleardi. The Storm started the third period up by a pair of goals, but an early penalty allowed Miller to scored for Plymouth to bring them within one. The Storm held on to that one goal lead, and Francis Menard scored an empty net goal late in the third period. Guelph took the game 4-2 to lead the series 1-0.

GAME 2:

The series shifted back to Storm City for game 2 on Sunday March 25th. With an electrifying home crowd, Guelph jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period. Scott Kosmachuk scored on the powerplay at 5:18, followed by goals from McNaughton and Dickinson. The second period scoring was controlled by Plymouth with two goals from Noesen and Rakell. Guelph rang several pucks off the posts, and the young squad continued to play a tough game. Noesen got his second of the game on an early third period powerplay. Determined to take game 2, Guelph continued to drive to the net. Francis Menard got his second of the post season to put the home side ahead by one goal. Tanner Richard tapped in the empty net goal at 19:55 of the third. Guelph took a 2 game lead by winning the game 5-3.

GAME 3:

Guelph traveled back to Plymouth, looking to take a 3 game series lead on Tuesday night. Plymouth came out firing and Noesen scored on an early powerplay - giving the Whalers their first lead in any game this series. Much like Guelph in Game 2, Plymouth jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period; two of those goals coming on the powerplay. Scott Kosmachuk scored the lone Storm goal of Game 3, on the powerplay at 13:54 of the first. Plymouth went on to score 4 more goals before the end of 60 minutes. Guelph went 1/8 on the powerplay, while the Whalers went 5/8.
