Tri-City Storm News Release

DES MOINES - Mario Lamoureux scored in round 11 of a shootout to give the Tri-City Storm a 4-3 win over Des Moines Friday night at Buccaneer Arena in Des Moines.

With the win, the Storm has secured home-ice in the Clark Cup playoffs set to begin next week. The Storm's 76 standings points has guaranteed the team of a top three finish in the USHL West.

The Storm, currently in third place and one-point behind Lincoln, could finish in second place with a win over Sioux City and a Lincoln loss in regulation to Omaha Saturday night. Meanwhile, a Lincoln win Saturday would propel the Stars into first place, and put Omaha in second place and leave the Storm in third place.

The fourth and fifth seeds are still up for grabs in the USHL West, as Sioux Falls and Sioux City are only separated by a point. Des Moines, thanks to Friday's loss, will officially be the sixth seed in the playoffs.

Friday, the Storm and Buccaneers found themselves in the penalty box early in the game, and the powerplay units were on fire.

Calle Ridderwall (Matt Ambroz, Lamoureux) started the scoring five minutes and 10 seconds into the game on a powerplay. The Bucs rebounded with three powerplay goals in a row, making it 3-1 after one.

Lamoureux (Ambroz, Brett Wysopal) cut the Des Moines lead in half, 3-2, just over seven and half minutes into the second period. David Brownschidle (Jordan VanGilder, Sean Wiles) tied the game with 5:29 remaining in the game, and sending the game into overtime.

In the shootout, Jess Martin scored in round two, and Des Moines scored in round three. Lamoureux was the only other player to score, which came in round 11.

Aaron Rock came in for relief of starter Ian Keserich at the beginning of the second period, and made 11 saves and 10 stops in the shootout to secure the win.

After being outshot 15-13 in the first period, the Storm outshot Des Moines, 32-11 in the next two periods.

The Storm and Sioux City play Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. in Sioux City. You can view and watch the game at www.stormhockey.com.

The official Clark Cup pairings will be known Saturday night, and game times will be announced Sunday afternoon. Tickets will go on sale Monday morning at the FirsTier Event Center Box office, and online at www.pickmytickets.com.
