Storm Acquire NHL Draft Pick Goalie from Green Bay

KEARNEY, Neb. - General Manager and Head Coach Drew Schoneck announced Monday afternoon that the Tri-City Storm have acquired Tampa Bay Lightning draft pick goalie Adam Wilcox from the Green Bay Gamblers for a first round draft pick in the 2012 USHL Entry Draft.

"We felt that, while Pheonix (Copley) has played well for us so far this season, we could add a champion-like goalie in Wilcox to help this team take it to the next level," said Schoneck. "Adam was a major part of the success in Green Bay over the past year, and split time with a quality goalie in (Ryan) McKay, which allowed him to battle for his time."

"We expect Adam to be a big addition to the Storm. He adds a little more winning experience to this team, and hope that he and Pheonix will lead this team to more win's overall."

Wilcox, who is committed to the University of Minnesota for next season, was drafted by Tampa Bay in the sixth round (178th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft following his rookie season in the USHL.

The South St. Paul, Minn. native has played in nine games this season for the Gamblers, posting a record of 7-2-0, two shutouts, 2.27 goals-against average and .918 save percentage. He is coming off a 6-0 shutout win for Green Bay on Saturday night in Muskegon, and is rated as the fourth best goalie statistically in the USHL.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound goalie, who turns 19 years old this Saturday, played 24 games last season for Green Bay with a record of 16-6-1, 2.20 GAA, one shutout, and a .922 save percentage. His stats ranked him in the top three in the USHL last season.

The former South St. Paul High School standout was drafted in the 17th round (221st overall) by Green Bay in the 2009 USHL Entry Draft. He would play the following season in high school, where he had a record of 13-13-0, 3.38 GAA and .887 save percentage.

Wilcox should arrive to Kearney and join the team before Wednesday's game in Lincoln.

The Storm will travel to Lincoln on Wednesday night to play the Stars at the Ice Box. The Viaero Wireless Pre-Game Show will start at 6:45 p.m. on Classic Hits 98.9 FM.
