IOWA CAUCUS: The Ice split a weekend caucus in Iowa with a 3-2 shootout win over Cedar Rapids on Friday, before losing a penalty-filled affair in Waterloo on Saturday 4-2. All four goals in regulation were scored in the third frame on Friday as Daniil Tarasov and Ian Spencer connected for Indy, while Jon Gillies turned back 28 shots between the pipes. Tarasov and Cody Gylling lit the lamp in the shootout giving the Ice the victory. There was a combined 135 penalty minutes Saturday in Waterloo as Indiana yielded four first period goals to the Black Hawks which became too much to overcome. Alexander Kuqali and Cody Bradley tallied markers for the Ice, while Gillies and Dalton Izyk shared time in net.
"KEEP ON, KEEPIN' ON": Forward Robbie Baillargeon extended his point streak to a team season-high six games over the weekend with an assist in both games in Iowa. The first-year USHL'er now has five goals and three assists for the streak.
HOT STICKS: Robert Polesello has points in three of his last four games (G, 4A)...Emil Romig has points in three of his last four games (G, 2A)...Alexander Kuqali led the Ice with a goal and an assist in Saturday's game in Waterloo.
PLAYER FODDER: Woody Hudson set a franchise mark for penalty minutes in a game with 37 on Saturday...Daniil Tarasov is second in the league in scoring (20 pts)...Jon Gillies is tied for second in wins (7) and is fourth among goaltenders with nine or more games in GAA (2.44)...Alex Barron (T-first, 11 pts) and Ryan Obuchowski (T-fifth, 9 pts) are in the top eight in scoring among USHL defensemen.
TEAM MORSELS: The Ice hope to end a two-game winless skid at home this week and has a better record on the road (5-2-1) than at home (3-2-1) this year...Indy is second in the USHL in PIMS/game (22.93)...The Ice is 6-1-2 against the Eastern Conference, but just 2-3-0 against the West...Indiana remains first in the league on the power play at home (31.6%) and overall (32.1%).
"CAMPUSING": Blake Coleman (09-11) scored two goals and Cody Reichard (05-07) tossed the shutout in Miami's 4-0 win over BGSU on Friday...Torey Krug (08-09) had two points (G, A) in MSU's 4-2 win over NMU on Friday...Kevin Goumas (09-10) handed out three assists for UNH over the weekend...Brian Ferlin (09-11) and Chris Martin (09-11) had two-goal games for Cornell and St. Lawrence respectively over the weekend.
