Orlando City SC News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. - In the last home game of 2018, Orlando City SC (8-21-4, 28 points) defeated Columbus Crew SC (13-11-9, 48 points) 2-1 on Sunday at Orlando City Stadium. Yoshimar Yotún and Sacha Kljestan each converted penalty kicks.
"Obviously delighted to get the win. I think it was a great performance today to try to win something for the players and especially for the supporters. It was very important that we gave a good performance and got three points. I'm pleased that we were able to do that," Lions head coach James O'Connor said.
It looked as though the match would end level until the Lions drew their second penalty kick of the afternoon. Kljestan slotted it to the right of goal, sending Crew SC goalkeeper Zack Steffen the wrong way to win the game in stoppage time.
Kljestan's goal was City's second off a penalty kick after Yotún scored in the 57th. The Peruvian floated his PK over a diving Steffen and under the bar. The goal made it 1-1 three minutes after Columbus' Federico Higuain scored on a free kick.
After the match, Orlando City SC hosted a 7-v-7 Special Olympics Unified match between the Unified teams of Orlando City and Columbus Crew in partnership with Major League Soccer, ESPN and MLS WORKS.
The Lions close the 2018 season on Sunday, Oct. 28, when they visit the New York Red Bulls. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. ET at Red Bull Arena.
