Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Stockton, CA - In a Saturday night contest the Victoria Salmon Kings and Stockton Thunder met in the finale of a three-game set at the Stockton Arena. Victoria's Glenn Fisher started in net while Stockton gave the nod to Aaron Sorochan.

The Thunder opened the scoring 4:23 after puck drop in what proved to be a busy first period. Matt Robinson took a quick pass across the ice from Chris D'Alvise into the right faceoff circle and fired a wrist shot past the glove of Fisher for his 21st goal of the season. Victoria quickly responded just 16 seconds later when Olivier Filion put a shot on net from the left side that was saved by Sorochan. Wes Goldie, positioned on the top of the crease, pushed the rebound through the Stockton netminder for his league-leading 40th tally of the campaign. Igor Gongalsky regained the Thunder's one-goal advantage at 5:30 when he tipped a Justin Dacosta offering over the Victoria netminder's glove for his 12th goal of the year. Stockton extended their lead to 3-1 at the 11:29 mark when Colin Hemmingway fed a backhand pass from behind the net into the left faceoff circle for a streaking Oren Eizenman who fired home is 17th tally of the year past an out-of-position Fisher. Dirk Southern notched the Salmon Kings' second goal of the game at 16:25. The Salmon Kings' forward carried the puck end-to-end down the right wing, made a move around a Stockton defender in the offensive zone, and fired the puck past Sorochon's blocker. Southern's seventh goal of the season finished off the scoring for the opening frame as Stockton took their 3-2 lead into the first intermission.

Daryl Marcoux extended the Thunder's lead to 4-2 while shorthanded at 5:16. Marcoux took a pass from D'Alvise on a two-on-one rush and made no mistake in burying his third goal of the season past the Victoria goaltender. James Bates gave Stockton the 5-2 advantage at 17:18 with a power play tally when he took a D'Alvise feed into the right faceoff circle and beat Fisher blocker side into the back of the net. Kelly Czuy scored the 6-2 goal at 18:42 on the man advantage to give the home side a four-goal lead heading into the final frame.

Robinson and Chad Painchaud traded power play goals in the third period to round out the scoring for the game. Robinson's marker was his 22nd of the year, while Painchaud's tally gave him 25 on the season. Thunder 7 Salmon Kings 3.

Victoria went 1/8=12.5% on the power play while Stockton was 3/11=27.3%. The Thunder outshot the Salmon Kings 41-36.
