
Stingrays Weekly: Stingrays Start 2015 Playoff Run Friday on Home Ice

South Carolina Stingrays News Release
The South Carolina Stingrays wrapped up the 2014-15 regular season last week with a single contest against the Evansville IceMen on Saturday at the North Charleston Coliseum, earning a 3-0 victory to send their overall record to 45-20-1-6 and finish second in the East Division.
After a quiet first period, the Stingrays broke the scoreless tie early in the second thanks to forward Patrick Gaul. Defenseman Jake Suter earned his first professional point with the primary assist. Looking to lockup home-ice advantage with a win, Stingrays forward Derek DeBlois added two goals including his team-leading 21st tally of the season. Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis made 25 saves for his league-leading seventh shutout of the season and helped the Stingrays set a new ECHL single-season record with 12 team shutouts this season.

League Leaders:
The Stingrays held the best defense in the ECHL this season with a 2.26 goals-against average and the best shots shots-against average at 25.99. The team also scored 224 goals, the highest since the 2009-10 season.
Goaltender Jeff Jakaitis earned the top spot in the ECHL with a 1.96 goals-against average and seven shutouts and ranked second in the league with a .924 save percentage and five shootout wins.
Forward Derek DeBlois finisehd tied for 12th among ECHL rookies with 45 points (21 goals, 24 assists).
Defenseman Marcus Perrier led ECHL rookies with 45 minor penalties and placed fourth among first-year players with 155 penalty minutes.
