The South Carolina Stingrays tangled with the Orlando Solar Bears, Elmira Jackals and Gwinnett Gladiators this week for a record 1-2-0-1. The week opened on Tuesday with the Solar Bears visiting the North Charleston Coliseum for the first time in team history. Forward Mike Hamilton tied the game with 1:12 to play in regulation, but the Stingrays fell in the shootout 2-1. The Jackals made their only stop of the season to the Coliseum Friday, taking a 4-2 victory. Forward Matthew Pistilli scored a goal and an assist for the Rays. Orlando returned to North Charleston Saturday evening. Stingrays goaltender Shawn Hunwick stopped all 31 shots for his first professional shutout and forward Hunter Bishop (one goal, one assist) and defenseman Tommy Cross (two assists) each scored two points in a 3-0 win. Sunday marked the start of a season-long six game road trip for South Carolina as they visited The Arena at Gwinnett Center to faceoff against the Gladiators. Bishop scored two goals, but the Gladiators netted three in the opening period for a 3-2 triumph.

Taking the Lead

The Stingrays are fourth in the South Division with nine points and 10th overall in the Eastern Conference.

Defenseman Tommy Cross is 20th in the ECHL, third among rookies and first among defensemen with 11 points (two goals, nine assists). His nine assists are first among rookies and league defensemen.

Forward Matthew Pistilli is third in the ECHL with 43 shots.

Goaltender Shawn Hunwick is 18th with a 2.57 goals-against average. Netminder Adam Morrison is fourth with 197 saves.

Rookie Andrew Cherniwchan is 14th among ECHL first-year players with six points (three goals, three assists).
