Stingrays Weekly: Stingrays Celebrate Fan Appreciation Night and Hall of Fame Night this Friday

The South Carolina Stingrays traveled to Germain Arena in Estero, Florida for a three-game series against the Florida Everblades for a week record of 1-1-1-0.

The series opened Wednesday night with the Everblades edging the Stingrays 2-1. Defenseman Damon Kipp scored the lone goal for the Stingrays in the first period and goaltender Ryan Zapolski made 38 saves.

On Saturday, forward Peter Boyd netted a goal and two assists, forward Robby Dee added two goals and defenseman Kevin Quick recorded a goal and an assist to help the Stingrays defeat the Everblades 4-2.

The Stingrays and Everblades wrapped up their regular-season series Sunday afternoon. The Stingrays erased a two-goal deficit and tied the contest twice, but fell in overtime 4-3. Defenseman Ryan McGinnis buried a goal and an assist and forward Jay Silvia pitched in two assists in the loss. The Stingrays finished the season series against their South Division rivals with a 6-4-1-0 record.

Taking the Lead

The Stingrays are fourth in the South Division with 78 points and sixth overall in the Eastern Conference.

Forward Peter Boyd is tied for second in the ECHL with five shootout goals.

Goaltender Ryan Zapolski is first in the ECHL with a 1.66 goals-against average, a .940 save percentage and eight shutouts. The Erie, Pennsylvania, native is third among netminders with 25 wins and fifth with 2,198 minutes played.

Forward Andrew Cherniwchan is fourth among ECHL rookies with 31 minor penalties.

Forward Tyler Johnson is tied for third among ECHL rookies with two shootout-winning goals.
