Previewing the Upcoming Week:
3/20 & 3/24 vs. Trenton - 7:05 p.m. & 4:05 p.m., Home vs. TRE 3-2-0, Away vs. TRE 5-2-1
It has been nearly two months (January 27) since the Titans last visited First Arena. Wednesday will be the first of three games between the Jackals and Titans in Elmira over the final two weeks of the season. The last time the Titans visited, Elmira claimed its largest victory of the season in an 8-1 triumph. The eight goals were Elmira's most in a game this season, but the offense has been consistently good against the Titans. After a 6-3 win in their most recent meeting last Sunday, the Jackals are averaging 4.7 goals per game against the Titans. The Jackals have only scored fewer than three goals in a game against Trenton twice (0-2-0), and that trend doesn't bode well for the Titans because the Jackals are 30-10-3 when scoring three or more goals in a game.
3/22 & 3/23 vs. Fort Wayne - 7:05 p.m., Home vs. FTW 0-0-0, Away vs. FTW 0-1-0
This week will close out the three-game season series between the Jackals and Komets which began when Elmira visited Fort Wayne, and lost 6-5, on December 29. The Komets, who are in their first ECHL season, last visited Elmira as members of the United Hockey League on January 3, 2007. The all-time series between the clubs favors the Komets with a 19-4-4 record. Fort Wayne is the fourth, and final, North Division team to visit First Arena this season. The Jackals have gone 2-2-3 at home against the North with three of the five losses (0-1-2) coming against Kalamazoo.

Recapping Last Week:
3/15 at Reading: L 0-2
Despite 34 shots on goal, including 18 in the third period, the Jackals were unable to break through against Reading goalie Riley Gill and suffered their first shutout loss of the season. After a scoreless 39:07 of play, the Royals struck twice within a span of 33 seconds to break the deadlock. Kirk MacDonald scored the game winner and picked up the primary assist on Julien Cayer's insurance score.
3/17 at Trenton: W 6-3
Andrew Rowe (2G, 1A) and Jordan Pietrus (2G) powered a resurgent Jackals attack one game after getting shut out. Rowe scored twice in a span of 2:31 in the first period while Pietrus picked up his two 9:10 apart in the third. Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel and Rob Bellamy also scored for the Jackals while Maxime Clermont stopped 36 shots to help Elmira grab the win in its final visit to Trenton this season.
Quick Hits:
* Elmira has qualified for the Kelly Cup Playoffs in each of its first five seasons in the ECHL. Its quest for a sixth straight berth is coming to a head. With at least one standings point in 11 of their last 14 games (8-3-3) the Jackals have reduced their magic number to clinch a playoff spot to seven. The magic number is reduced any time the Jackals earn a point in a game or the ninth place team fails to earn a point in a game. If the chips fall in just the right way, the Jackals could clinch a spot as early as Friday, March 22.
* After going 1-1-0 last week, goalie Maxime Clermont is 12-7-2 for the Jackals in 2013. His 18 wins for the season are already a career high, and with two more wins he would join Brian Stewart (26, 11-12), Marco Cousineau (21, 10-11), and Joel Martin (27, 07-08). in the Jackals' single season 20-win club.
* The Jackals boast the fifth best home defense in the ECHL with 84 goals allowed (2.71/game). If they maintain their current average, the Jackals would allow 97 goals at home this season. That would be the second time they allowed fewer than 100 at home (95 in 2011-12), and give them their second-best home goals-against average in their ECHL history. The best was 2.64 in 2011-12. The Jackals' remaining home opponents - Trenton (2.98) and Fort Wayne (2.91) - rank 12th and 15th in league scoring, respectively.
* Elmira has received the second-fewest power play chances, 237, in the ECHL. Only Fort Wayne at 236 has received fewer. Elmira has also been shorthanded the fourth fewest times at 258. Over their last ten games the Jackals have been out-chanced on the power play 35-34. They are 2-2-0 when out-chanced on the power play, 2-1-0 when PP chances are the same, and 2-0-1 when out-chancing their opponent on the PP.
* Andrew Rowe leads the Jackals so far in March with 12 points (6G, 6A) in nine games. The third-year pro from Michigan State has seven points (3G, 4A) in his last four games, including a career-best four points (1G, 3A) March 9 vs. Orlando. He has also played to a +15 rating in the 2013 portion of the schedule after accumulating a -13 in the first three months of the season.
