Evansville IceMen News Release
RUNDOWN/LOWDOWN: With two weeks and six more games remaining in their maiden voyage season across the ECHL in 2012-13, the Evansville IceMen will be looking forward to closing the campaign on a high, premium, positive note with as much zest and gusto that they can muster. Under the direction of third-year General Manager/Head Coach Rich Kromm, the IceMen "Icers" have compiled a season-long overall record of 66(23-37-6) totaling 52-points and fifth place standing in the Eastern Conference North Division standings. Of their six games still showing on the docket, the IceMen will be in action on home ice at the Ford Center twice more with the other four games scheduled for foreign ice warfare. This week, the IceMen will conclude their 36-game regular season home slate with a pair of Ford Center appearances with exciting promotional extravaganzas to be presented. Evansville will launch the second to last week of the season this Wednesday night in Toledo before returning home to the friendly climes and environs of the Ford Center to guest host Reading on Friday night followed by Kalamazoo for the home finale Saturday night.
DALLAS COWBOYS CHEERLEADERS/ZOOPERSTARS HERE THIS WEEKEND!" The IceMen organization is climaxing its second season at the Ford Center with premium promo crescendo. This Friday night when the IceMen play host with the most against Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference kingpin Reading, "America's Sweethearts," the world famous Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will be at the Ford Center at the IceMen game to entertain. Then for the home finale this Saturday night when the playoff-aspiring Kalamazoo Wings invade the premises, the IceMen will present the ever-popular "ZOO-perstars!" It is also the IceMen Third Annual "Awards Night" which will be conducted prior to the game's opening face-off.
"ICEMEN LIVE PRESENTED BY COORS LIGHT": It's another fun-filled, entertaining Monday night edition of "IceMen Live Presented by Coors Light" live from Evansville's Show-Me's East. The weekly two-hour IceMen radio show and its host, Terry Ficorelli, will have center Jason Dale and left wing Dylan Clarke as the special guests. The ever-popular IceMen Monday night radio show is presented from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm live on the IceMen radio flagship home of "Magic 98.5 FM" and 1400 AM WEOA. as well as world-wide on the internet at magic985fm.com and 1400amweoa.com.
WRAP THE RECAP: It was a rather rigorous regimen for the Coach Kromm club facing 4-games in 5-days and posting a 4(1-2-1) mark. Emanating and culminating the week's odyssey at archenemy Fort Wayne the past Wednesday, the IceMen bowed to the Komets, 6-3. Dylan Clarke provided the pyrotechnics for the IceMen by accounting for all 3-goals in netting his initial "hat trick" of the season. Returning home after another two-week' absence from the Ford Center the past Friday night, the "Men of the Igloo" earned and deserved a far better fate and destiny in settling for a single point in a 3-2 OTSO outcome against visiting Greenville. The IceMen utterly dominated every major aspect of the contest including the SOG department, 42-27. Daniel Tetrault connected on both of his team's strikes with the game's FG and a late second period TBG/PPG. However, in the OTSO, the Road Warriors prevailed, 3-0. Saturday night with the venue staying the same for the IceMen, in a spellbinding, spine-tingling affair, the IceMen doused Kalamazoo, 4-2. The victors struck early and late, each time in rapid-fire fashion. In the opening stanza, the IceMen stoked a pair of strikes 1:25 apart before severing the 2-2 tie with only 1:26 remaining when Daniel Tetrault delivered the late, dramatic TBG/GWG before Oliver Gabriel stashed the ENG. The IceMen outshot the Wings, 39-21, allotting the fewest SOGA in a single game this year. Sunday, returning to Fort Wayne, the Komets dispatched the IceMen, 8-5. Jason Dale (1-2-3), Dylan Clarke (1-1-2), Oliver Gabriel (1-1-2) FG, Daniel Tetrault and Patrick Kennedy were the IceMen marksmen. Goaltender James Reid and the IceMen were kept under constant siege, permitting a season-high 50-SOG.
HALF-DOZEN DOES IT: With two weeks and six games remaining before the conclusion of the campaign, the IceMen have assembled a season's log of 66(23-37-6) totaling 52-points. When they defeated Kalamazoo Saturday night, 4-2, the IceMen halted a 6-game winless streak; 6(0-5-1), their second longest in that category this season. The longest such streak was the IceMen first 7-games of the season at 7(0-6-1). Presently, the IceMen are 3(1-1-1) in their last trio of outings and 8(1-6-1) through their last 8-decisions. The IceMen record in the second half; 30(11-16-3). The longest win streak has been 3-in a row which has been accomplished twice. Their longest unblemished skein has been 6(4-0-2) and 4(3-0-1). The monthly accounting; October 7(0-6-1); November 14(6-8-0); December; 13(5-6-2); January 12(5-6-1); February 12(6-5-1); March 8(1-6-1).
HOME PROUD LOUD: For the two home games the past weekend, the IceMen attracted leather-lunged legions of 6,412 on Friday night and 7,821 for Saturday night for a combined total of nearly 14,300 fans for an average of a supreme 7,150. The IceMen did earn 3 of a possible 4-points from those two games through a 2(1-0-1) mark. Evansville has been fostering a flourish on the homestead, recording a stellar mark of 5(3-1-1) in its last 5-home efforts. Second-half home record: 14(7-6-1). The longest home win skein has been 4-in succession and 3-consecutively. The longest home losing stretch has been 5 coinciding with the beginning of the home schedule. The IceMen home record is 34(15-18-1)
FOREIGN WARFARE WAFFLING: In dropping a pair of foreign ice excursions the past week at Fort Wayne against the Komets, the IceMen saw their losing skid abroad reach a season-high 5-in a row. Evansville's last triumph in hostile territory came back on the weekend of February 22nd and 23rd when they stunned reigning Kelly Cup king Florida not once, but twice. For the season, the road record is 32(8-19-5). Second half road record is 16(4-10-2). During their present 5-game road losing spell, the IceMen have been outgoaled, 32-14.
THE DIVISION EDITION: When the IceMen subdued Kalamazoo on home ice Saturday night, 4-2, the IceMen dissolved a 5-game losing streak within their own North Division. They are currently 7(1-6-0) in their last 7-intra-divisional escapades. The breakdown: North Division; 41(16-21-4); Atlantic Division; 12(3-8-1); South Division; 13(4-8-1). The IceMen have accrued 5-out of 6-points in their last 3-meetings with the South Division on a record of 3(2-0-1).
MAJOR MARQUEE MEISTERS: Though departed, center Todd Robinson exits ranked 5th in ECHL league wide scoring with 57(7-61-68). Robinson's 61-assists and 31-PPA still top the loop while his 31-PP/points rank runner-up. Daniel Tetrault has skyrocketed meteorically to #3 in the ECHL in scoring among defensemen; 65(12-24-36). His 12-goals tie for third most around the league; his 6-PPG tie him for circuit second best.
THE DAN TETRAULT SHOW: Thirteen-year veteran defenseman Daniel Tetrault has been torrid with his pinpoint point-producing in recent action. In 4-games the past week, the newly-named IceMen captain cranked 4-goals, 2-assists, 6-points with 2-PPG, 1-GWG and stellar +3 rating. Presently enjoying both a 4-game point streak as well as an IceMen 3-game goal scoring streak; 3(4-1-5), he was hailed the #1 Star in both of his club's weekend appearances at home, delivering 20-SOG and the late dramatic, gigantic GWG with a scant 1:26 remaining in regulation time in the IceMen 4-2 triumph over playoff-aspiring Kalamazoo. In that same game, Tetrault attained a brilliant +4 rating; the best for an IceMen game combatant thus far this season. One night earlier, the IceMen new captain connected on both of his team's goals in the 3-2 OTSO against Greenville. Tetrault is the IceMen nominee for ECHL Player of the Week.
FIRST WIN FOR HIM: Newly-acquired goaltender James Reid has made 6-straight starts in the IceMen goal including all 4 in 5-days the past week. The second-year pro earned 3 of a possible 4-points available during the IceMen two-game weekend homestand, posting a 2(1-0-1) mark with a miserly, microscopic GAA of 1.93 and .917 SPCT in brushing aside 44 of 48-SOG. Reid achieved his first IceMen victory on Saturday night as he rebuffed 19 of 21-Wings offerings in the 4-2 late, dramatic victory for the hometown team. Reid is the IceMen nomination for ECHL Goaltender of the Week.
DYLAN DANGLIN': Second-year left wing Dylan Clarke is enjoying an outstanding initial season with the IceMen. Last week, the IceMen nomination for ECHL Player of the Week collected 3-points in a pair of outings including both of his club's goals at Cincinnati. This week, the former Plattsburgh State All-American was, again, at the top of his game, launching the week by, again, accounting for all of his team's goals, all 3 of them in the form of his first "hat trick" of the season despite the IceMen 6-3 loss in Fort Wayne last Wednesday night. He was named the #2 Star in the contest. For the 4-games this week in total, Clarke engineered 7-points on 4-goals, 3-assists and 18-SOG. In his last 5-games; (6-3-9); last 7-games; 7(6-5-11).
RACIN' JASON: The IceMen swift-skating center Jason Dale has been reaping a bounteous harvest in point-productivity in recent action. In the IceMen 8-5 setback Sunday at archenemy Fort Wayne, the former Brampton Battalion standout authored 3-points on 1-goal, 2-assists. Currently tied for the team leadership in SHG with 2, "J.D" has been averaging a point a game through the past 12-games with 12-points on 4-goals, 8-assists.
"THE GABE" RAID: Left wing Oliver Gabriel is beginning to come alive after enduring the preponderance of the year with a myriad of maladies. The parent club Columbus Blue Jackets chattel engineered 3-points the past 2-games to punctuate and culminate the weekend on a high-tech, high-octane scoring scourge. In the IceMen late, dramatic, 4-2 victory verdict Saturday night against Kalamazoo, Gabriel streamlined the cinching and clinching goal and ENG before delivering1-goal, 1-assist in Sunday's setback at Fort Wayne. For the season in 14-games; 14(4-3-7).
POWER PLAY ACT BACK: The IceMen extra man band is back on the beam with its goal-cannoneering expertise. After an 0-14 famine spanning 4-winless results, the power play is back in play, going 3 for the last 12; 25% proficiency. As far as the penalty-killing cast is concerned, through the last 6-games, the opponents are 12 for the last 32 for an efficiency rating of a less-than-desirable 68.8%. The IceMen have scored 7-SHG for the season while allowing 14-SHGA, second most in the league.
MOMENTOUS MILESTONES: Jake Obermeyer played in his 200th pro game last Wednesday night in Fort Wayne. Dylan Clarke has already scored 51-goals in less than two full seasons in the pro ranks. Head Coach Rich Kromm (395) is 5-victories shy of 400-career coaching victories. The IceMen head coach has garnered 84-wins since assuming the reins of the IceMen back in the 2010-11 season.
FEW FUN FAST FACTS FROM "FIC": This past weekend two-game homestand saw the IceMen average 7,150 fans in attendance. When the IceMen defeated Kalamazoo Saturday night, 4-2, it marked the fourth consecutive home triumph for Evansville against the Wings this season. The 21-SOG which Kalamazoo had on Saturday night represented the least number of SOG surrendered by the IceMen this season. The IceMen are 26(20-2-4) when entering the third period with the lead and 23(13-6-4) when attaining the lead after the first period. They are 23(13-8-2) when outshooting the opposition. Left Wing Patrick Kennedy, in his last 12-games; 12(3-8-11). The IceMen have employed 56-players thus far this season.
THE ICEMEN GAME CALENDAR THIS WEEK:
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20TH THE ICEMEN AT TOLEDO 6:00 PM
For the 10th and final time, the IceMen and the Walleye will engage in on-ice combat with the Toledoans leading the season series, 9(5-4-0). After claiming the initial trio of clashes, the IceMen have been solved in 5 of the last 6-endeavors including 3-consecutively in the Northern Ohio hamlet, being outscored there by the lopsided margin of 15-2. The last clash back on March 2nd saw the Walleye humble the "Icers," 7-1. Overall, the IceMen are 4(1-3-0) at the Huntington Center thus far this season.
FRIDAY, MARCH 22ND READING AT THE ICEMEN 7:15 PM
For the first time since November 24th and for only the third time this season, the IceMen and the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference leading Reading Royals will battle. The series is balanced at 2(1-1-0) with home ice advantage seemingly irrelevant. In the Royals only previous appearance at the Ford Center back on November 18th, they erupted volcanically for 5-third period goals to overwhelm the home team, 7-2. However, one week later, this time in Reading, the IceMen exacted retribution and reprisals with a 4-2 triumph on November 24th.
SATURDAY, MARCH 23RD KALAMAZOO AT THE ICEMEN 7:15 PM
The IceMen regular season home finale as the Wings spend a second consecutive Saturday night in the Evansville mega-lopolis. From the IceMen perspective, the series is all even-Steven at 10(4-4-2) with all 4 of the Evansville victories coming consecutively at home against the Wings including last Saturday night's thrilling 4-2 triumph. Overall, the IceMen are 5(4-1-0) at home this season against Kalamazoo which as the three-time defending North Division titlist is in major danger of failing to qualify for the post season this year.
