
Stingrays Receive Sauer from Florida; Pope and Oreskovic Recalled

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today that goaltender Billy Sauer has been traded to the team from the Florida Everblades in exchange for future considerations. The team also announced that forward Matt Pope and defenseman Phil Oreskovic have been recalled to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Sauer, 24, appeared in 10 games with the Greenville Road Warriors, Gwinnett Gladiators and Florida Everblades of the ECHL this season going 2-7-0 with a 2.60 goals-against average and a .896 save percentage. The Rochester, New York, native skated in 23 games last season with the Gladiators and Las Vegas Wranglers taking a 6-11-3 record with a 2.83 GAA and .893 save percentage. A seventh-round (201st overall) draft selection by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Sauer saw action in the AHL with the Lake Erie Monsters in 2009-10 going 5-7-1 with a 3.09 GAA and .901 save percentage in 15 games. Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound goaltender attended the University of Michigan for four seasons compiling a 71-30-8 record, 2.56 goals-against average, .908 save percentage and helped lead the Wolverines to the NCAA Frozen Four in 2007-08.
Pope, 27, dressed in 18 games with the Stingrays this season netting seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points and leads the team in power-play points (4g, 7a). In 19 games with the Bears, the Langley, British Columbia, native has three goals and two assists for five points.
Oreskovic, 25, battled in 37 games with the Stingrays grabbing one assist and 56 penalty minutes. With Hershey, the North York, Ontario, product registered one assist in nine contests.
The Stingrays hit the road for a three-game road trip Wednesday, February 1 against the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:00 p.m. at Wing Stadium and return to the North Charleston Coliseum Tuesday, February 7 against the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday is 2-for-1 Ticket Night!
