January 31, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
The Situation
The Grizzlies have won two-straight games and are 2-0 through the first two games of this current five-game home stand.
Close Ones
Utah has played four consecutive one-goal games and improved to 15-4-0-4 in one-goal game's following Monday's 5-4 come from behind win over Idaho.
New Guys
The Grizzlies on Monday dressed a full team of 16 skaters for only the 12th time this year and only the second time since December 9 which spans 21 games. Eight of their 16 skaters, were not on the active roster on January 11 following a series of trades and players returning from injury. Four of those players had at least a point in Monday's game.
Homecoming
The Grizzlies will host former Head Coach Jason Christie and the Ontario Reign Friday and Saturday in the first two of nine season meetings between the two teams. Ontario is the only team on the schedule that the Grizzlies haven't played yet. Christie returns to West Valley City for the first time since 2008 when he and then Assistant Coach Kevin Colley led the Grizzlies to the conference finals.
Shooting
Utah recorded a season-high of 55 shots Monday, led by Paul McIlveen's season-high of 11 shots. McIlveen has ten shots or more in two of Utah's last three home games. 55 shots was five behind the all-time team high of 60 set December 4, 2007 against Phoenix. Utah is averaging 40 shots-per-game in their last nine games.
Offensively
Mitch Wahl has four goals and one assist in his last three games since rejoining Utah from the AHL. He has multiple-points in four of nine total games with Utah and has nine goals and three assists. He has a goal in three-straight games, one off of Jeff LoVecchio's high of a goal in four-straight games October 15-29.
Back This Week
Utah returned Chris Donovan to the lineup Friday for the first time since January 7 and Ryan Turek for the first time since November 25 in what is expected to be a series of injured players returning to the ice in the coming days.
Penalty-Kill
The Grizzlies have set a season-high by going four-straight games without allowing a power-play goal and currently rank fourth out of 20 teams in that department.
