Stingrays Receive Forward Jack Downing from Providence; Acquire Goaltender Allen York from Evansvill

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today that the team received forward Jack Downing from the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL) and acquired goaltender Allen York from the Evansville IceMen (ECHL) in exchange for future considerations.

Since being recalled to the Bruins on December 10, Downing, 24, skated in 11 AHL contests registering no points and two penalty minutes. In 16 games with the Stingrays this season, the New Canaan, Connecticut, native scored six goals and five assists for 11 points. Last season, Downing appeared in 34 games with the Elmira Jackals (ECHL) adding 14 goals and 14 assists for 28 points and netted four points (one goal, three assists) in 19 contests with their AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.

York, 24, appeared in six games with the IceMen this season going 3-3-0 with a 4.12 goals-against average and .863 save percentage. The Wetaskiwin, Alberta, native also dressed in eight AHL contests with the Rockford IceHogs, Texas Stars and Charlotte Checkers earning a 3-2-2 record, 2.00 goals-against average (GAA) and .923 save percentage. York split last season between the IceMen and Springfield Falcons (AHL) skating in five games at the ECHL level (3-1-1, 2.72 GAA, .919 save percentage) and 19 matchups in the AHL (13-6-0, 2.39 GAA, .907 save percentage).

A sixth-round selection (158 overall) of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2007 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft, York made his NHL debut on October 25, 2011 and battled in 10 more games during the 2011-12 season picking up a 3-2-0 record, 2.30 goals-against average and .919 save percentage. The 6-foot-3, 194-pound goaltender earned his first NHL victory on March 28, 2012 making 29 saves in a 4-2 Blue Jackets triumph over the Detroit Red Wings. Prior to turning pro, York attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for three seasons.
