
Stingrays Fall to Everblades to Wrap up 2011

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays (15-15-1-1) fell to the Florida Everblades (18-13-1-1) 6-3 on FIRST Robotics Night presented by Google Saturday evening at the North Charleston Coliseum.
The Everblades jumped out to an early lead at 4:36 of the first period when forward Matt Beca lifted a backhanded shot over the left shoulder of Stingrays goaltender Philipp Grubauer (L, 24 saves on 30 shots) from the bottom of the right-wing circle. Forward Scott Pitt and defenseman David Fischer earned the assists. Forward Rylan Galiardi made it a 2-0 Everblades lead with a power-play goal at 14:13 from forwards Leigh Salters and David Rutherford.
Late in the second period, Everblades defenseman Kyle Lawson registered his first goal of the season at 16:55 from forwards Mathieu Roy and Trevor Bruess. Moments later, Kory Falite lit the lamp to make it 4-0 at 17:58 from Salters. Forward Maxime Lacroix put the Stingrays on the board with one minute to play beating Everblades netminder Pat Nagle (W, 29 saves on 32 shots) over the glove from the top of the goal crease. Forward David de Kastrozza and defenseman Johann Kroll assisted on Lacroix's first tally of the campaign.
The Everblades added to their lead 3:02 into the third period with a man-advantage marker from Salters. Rutherford and Fischer picked up the assists. Stingrays forward Joe Pereira made it 5-2 at 7:56 from defenseman Dustin Stevenson and forward Matt Scherer. Florida responded at 14:02 with Pitt's ninth goal of the season with help from Fischer. The Stingrays wrapped up the game scoring with a shorthanded goal from forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien at 17:46 tapping in a pass from defenseman Derek Keller. Forward Trent Campbell registered the second assist. The Stingrays ended the night 0-for-4 on the power play while the Everblades went 2-for-6.
The Stingrays kickoff a seven-game road trip Friday, January 6 against the Elmira Jackals at 7:35 p.m. at First Arena and return to the North Charleston Coliseum Friday, January 20 against the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:05 p.m. for Dog Days of Winter featuring a Super Weiner Dog Race!
