Idaho Steelheads News Release
(Boise, ID) - Las Vegas broke a 2-2 tie with a pair of goals in less than three minutes in the third period Saturday night and rode the momentum to a 5-2 win over the Idaho Steelheads at CenturyLink Arena.
Eric Lampe scored twice, Peter MacArthur had a goal and an assist, and Scott Campbell handed out three assists for the victorious Wranglers in front of 4,152 fans in Boise.
Las Vegas controlled the first period, getting the only goal off the stick of Ryan Weston on a rebound to take a 1-0 lead. The lead would extend to two goals early in the second when Eric Lampe scored his ECHL-leading 25th of the season from the right post.
Idaho (15-14-3) found life midway through the second frame after an excellent penalty kill. With rejuvinated legs, Idaho would score on the power play when Aaron Lewadniuk cleaned up a rebound off a Tyson Hobbins blast from the top of the circles. Lewadniuk's sixth of the season got Idaho to within a goal at 14:14 of the second period. Idaho would even the score moments later thanks to the hard work of Jacob Cepis and Derek LeBlanc. Cepis battled the puck free along the far wall of his own zone, carried the puck up the left-hand side, and left a soft pass for LeBlanc. LeBlanc, who was being pressured by Las Vegas's Josh Lunden, was able to snap a shot past Fallon from the left circle to even the score at 18:57 of the second, his sixth tally of the season.
The Steelheads continued to push early in the third but Las Vegas cashed in on a sensational pass from Peter MacArthur to a streaking Eric Lampe between two Steelhead defensemen. Lampe beat Jerry Kuhn to the top corner for his 26th of the season at 6:06 of the third to give Las Vegas a lead they would not relinquish. MacArthur scored on the power play just two and a half minutes later to build a two-goal cushion. Adam Miller would add his 14th of the year at 17:26 of the third to round out the scoring.
Kuhn denied 35 of 40 shots in the loss, while Fallon stopped 32 of 34 to pick up the win for the Wranglers. Idaho was 1-5 on the power play and Las Vegas was 1-4.
The Steelheads return home on January 6 and 7 to host the Ontario Reign at CenturyLink Arena. The Steelheads will be wearing special, Boise State-themed blue and orange jerseys that will be auctioned off to raise money for St. Luke's Mountain States Tumor Institute and Elks Children's Rehab. Tickets are available by calling the CenturyLink Arena box office (208.331.TIXS) or by logging on to www.idahosteelheads.com.
