Chicago Express News Release
Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, ended 2011 with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Greenville Road Warriors.
The scoring didn't start until the second period when Greenville D Jyri Niemi took a pass deep from LW Brendan Connolly and flipped it over the blocker of G Paul Dainton just 53 seconds into the frame. The Express answered at 15:10 when D Nathan Lutz left the penalty box and took a lead pass from F Mike Embach for the breakaway opportunity. Despite Road Warriors D T.J. Reynolds being draped all over Lutz, the Captain was able to hold off the pressure and slide a goal past Greenville G Bryan Hince. The goal is the fourth for Lutz and his second in as many games. Greenville held the shot advantage after two periods by a tally of 16-12.
Greenville scored a goal early in the third period, as during 4-on-4 action D Francis Meilleur one-timed a shot through the legs of G Paul Dainton restoring the one goal lead for the Road Warriors. Chicago clawed back into the game, when F Kyle Ostrow swatted at a bouncing puck and floated it over the glove of G Bryan Hince, evening the score at 2-2 and forcing the game into overtime.
The Road Warriors began the overtime session on the power play, and the made good use of the extra man. A shot from the left point by F Justin Bowers sailed over the glove of Dainton and into the top corner of the net, granting the Road Warriors a 3-2 overtime victory.
