Alaska Aces News Release
Adam Courchaine stopped 19 shots for his first shutout of the year, and the Aces scored three power play goals en route to a 4-0 victory over the Colorado Eagles at Sullivan Arena on Friday night. The Aces have now kept the Eagles top-ranked offense to just one goal and 39 shots in two games this week. Alaska extended their point streak to six games and improved their league best record to 22-5-5. The Aces and Eagles finish their three-game series and the 2011 calendar year on Saturday night. The Aces peppered the Colorado net in the first period, outshooting Colorado 16-4 in the frame, but Eagles netminder Andrew Penner emerged as the storyline in the opening stanza keeping the Aces off the board.
The second period started the same way until Alaska's power play finally broke the scoreless tie. Bryan Miller's shot from the blue line was deflected by Wes Goldie for his 17th of the year at 7:26 to make it 1-0 Alaska. Both teams had ten shots in the second period, and the Aces took a narrow 1-0 lead into the second period.
Alaska finally broke the game open in the third with three goals for the win. Garry Nunn tied a career-high with his 11th goal of the season on a wrist shot from the left circle at 2:31. Dan Kissel then scored his team-leading 18th of the year on a back-door feed from Steve Ward while the Aces were on a two-man advantage at 13:22. Nick Mazzolini capped the scoring with a turnaround shot from the low slot at 17:28.
Adam Courchaine (7-1-3) earned the win, making 19 saves on 19 shots, and Andrew Penner (4-4-1) made 34 saves on 38 shots, taking the loss. The Aces power play went 3-8, while the Eagles went 0-2. Alaska outshot Colorado 38-19 in the game.
The Aces and Eagles finish their three-game series and the 2011 calendar year on Saturday night. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.facebook.com/alaskaaceshockey.
