Stingrays Drop Game Three to Gladiators, Still Lead 2-1

South Carolina Stingrays News Release
Duluth, GA - The South Carolina Stingrays dropped game three of their best of five game series against the Gwinnett Gladiators tonight by a final of 4-1 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
"We had flashes of playing well tonight," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "But all in all, we are going to need to play a lot better to finish off a team like Gwinnett."
The first period was tight by all measures as both teams had chances, but both goaltenders played well. It wasn't until 16:06 of the second period that a goal was scored. Jeff Mason got his first of the night to make it 1-0 Gwinnett. But like the first two games of the series, the Stingrays answered quickly, this time just 1:15 later. At 17:21 Travis Morin got his fifth goal of the playoffs, and his fourth of the series, to tie the game up at one. The goal came on the power play and was assisted by Cail MacLean and Chris Chaput.
The teams entered the third period tied at one, but Gwinnett soon took the lead for good. They scored three unanswered goals in the period, including one on the power play and one on short handed, to make it a 4-1 game, the eventual final.
The winning goaltender was Craig Kowalski who stopped 33 of the 34 shots he faced. The losing goaltender was Josh Johnson who stopped 44 of the 48 shots he faced. The Rays went 1-7 on the power play while killing off seven of the eight short handed situations they faced.
The Rays will be back in action tomorrow night for game four of the best of five game series. Game time will be at 7:05 and will be broadcast on REAL 1340.
