Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons had their 2007-08 season come to an end on Monday as the Utah Grizzlies picked up a 4-2 win in game six of the National Conference Quarterfinals, winning the series 4 games to 2.
Utah scored twice in the final 6:37 of the first period to take a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes.
Rob Sirianni opened the scoring at 13:23, gathering in a pass from Travis Rycroft in the right-wing circle, and one timing a shot past Jake Moreland for his third goal of the series. Andrew MacDonald doubled the lead to 2-0 at 18:55, skating across the Fresno blue line and blasting a slap shot past Moreland for a power-play goal.
Fresno pulled within one 2:01 into the second period. Kenny MacAulay picked up the puck from Brady Leisenring and sent a shot back in front which beat goaltender Nathan Lawson for his first playoff goal.
But, Utah answered just 20 seconds later to regain a two-goal lead. Ryan Kinasewich skated into the right-wing circle, and beat Moreland with a wrist shot for his first of the series.
The Falcons made it a one-goal game after 40 minutes on Leisenring's second goal of the series at 10:10. L.P. Lachance took a shot from the left point, and Leisenring deflected the puck at the hash marks past Lawson to make it 3-2.
Fresno pulled Moreland for an extra attacker in the final minute of the third period, but was unable to get any pressure on Lawson. The Grizzlies iced the game on an empty-net goal from Keith Johnson at 19:20.
Fresno finished the night 0-for-7 on the power play, while Utah converted once on five man-advantage opportunities.
The Falcons return downtown to Selland Arena for the 2008-09 season. Season-ticket packages are on sale now by calling the Falcons office at (559) 485-7825.
