Condors Weekly - Condors Return To Victoria For Game Six

April 21, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors came from behind in the third period to take a dramatic 5-4 victory at home on Saturday night in Kelly Cup Playoff action. The Condors trail the Victoria Salmon Kings 3-games-to-2 in their best-of-seven series. Over 15,000 fans witnessed games 3, 4 and 5 at The Nest last week, and the Condors lead the ECHL in playoffs attendance.

Victoria won two in a row last week, with a 3-2 overtime win Tuesday night in Game 3 and a 4-1 victory in Game 4 Wednesday to put the Condors in a 3-games-to-1 hole. With their backs against the wall Saturday night, the Condors win kept them alive and earned a return trip this week to Victoria for Game 6 Tuesday night and Game 7, if necessary, on Wednesday.

THIS WEEK (ALL TIMES PACIFIC):

Game 6 - Tuesday, April 22 @ Victoria (7:05 p.m.)

Game 7 - Wednesday, April 23 @ Victoria (7:05 p.m.) - if necessary

Friday, April 25 @ Utah/Fresno*

* - if the Condors advance to the 2nd round

D Dylan Yeo scored twice for Victoria, while Bakersfield received goals from D Kevin Truelson and C Tim Konsorada. G Yutaka Fukufuji made 31 saves for the Condors, but Victoria took a 2-games-to-1 lead in the series.

F Andrew Ianiero scored just past the halfway point of the second period to tie the game at 1-1, but Victoria scored twice late in the frame, and once in the third, en route to a 4-1 win. G Yutaka Fukufuji stopped 34 Victoria shots, including a penalty shot late in the game.

Saturday, April 19

CONDORS 5 vs. Victoria 4

Attn: 5,090

Five different Condors scored goals, including C Ryan Salvis and LW Mark Derlago, who both scored in the third period to erase a deficit and carry the Condors to victory. The Condors held 1-0 and 2-1 leads before climbing out of a 4-3 hole in the final frame. Derlago, F Andrew Ianiero, C Steve Slonina and LW Brett Lutes each had multiple-point games for Bakersfield.

SILENT JERSEY AUCTION RAISES $16,400:

The Condors Jersey Off Our Backs Silent Auction during the three first round home games raised a total of $16,400, the second-highest silent auction total in team history, as fans bid on the game-worn Burgundy 10th Anniversary Jerseys that the team wore throughout the regular season. All proceeds from this year's playoff auction benefited the Active 20/30 Club. Condors Captain Sean Venedam's game-worn jersey brought in the highest total, going for $1,800. The silent auction combined with the three game-worn specialty jersey auctions in the regular season to raise $100,175 for local charities, the most ever raised in a single season.

PLAYER NOTES:

F Andrew Ianiero, the Condors career playoff goals leader, has a tally in each of the last two games and leads the club with three goals and five points.

D Kevin Truelson passed C Mike Hofstrand for second on the all-time Condors playoff games list on Saturday with his 26th career Condors playoff game. F Andrew Ianiero tied Hofstrand for third in the same game.

F Matt Tyree made his professional debut Saturday night. The Condors signed the former Minnesota State University - Mankato forward on April 2.

D Jay Langager, who had one assist in 24 career playoff games prior to this season, leads the Condors with four assists.

The Condors are 2-1 in Game 6 in team history, with all three games coming in the last two seasons.

The Condors have never won a series in which they trailed 3-games-to-2 (0-1).

The winner of the Condors-Salmon Kings series will advance to face the winner of the Fresno-Utah series. Utah leads the series 3-games-to-2, with Game 6 coming tonight in Fresno.

F Dale Reinhardt remains on the 7-day IR, but is eligible to be activated. D Derrick Byfuglien and RW Jason Kostadine were both placed on the 3-day IR Saturday and will be eligible to be activated on Tuesday.

UPCOMING GAMES/PLAYOFF TICKET INFO:
