DULUTH, Minn. - With two outs in the 10th inning, Michael Suchy (Florida Gulf Coast) hit a ball past the second baseman into right field to score Mitch Rowan (San Francisco) from second base for the winning run in a 5-4 Stingers victory Monday night at Wade Stadium.
Willmar improved to 6-7 in the team's first extra-inning game of the season, while the loss dropped Duluth to 8-5.
Rowan scored the winning run after hitting a double to left-center field with one out in the 10th. Rowan finished the contest 2-for-5 with an RBI single for the team's only multi-hit performance of the night.
Brady Anderson (Florida Gulf Coast) earned the victory after surrendering the tying run in the ninth inning but staying in the game in the 10th to finish with two innings of relief, striking out two while not walking anybody. Andrew Pulido (San Francisco) did not factor into the decision in spite of striking out six in seven innings while only allowing three runs on seven hits.
Willmar took its first lead of the game in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Max Kuhn (Kentucky) to left-center field that scored Steve Talbott (Purdue) from first base with two outs.
Trailing 3-1 entering the seventh, Willmar's first three batters reached with walks to Kenny Roberts (Alabama) and Logan Allen (Occidental College) sandwiched around a base hit by Steven Brault (Regis). Greg Fettes (Kentucky) drove home Roberts on a sacrifice fly and Brault scored one batter later on a throwing error by the catcher. With the score tied, 3-3, Rowan hit a two-out single to score Allen and give the Stingers the lead again.
The Stingers will continue their three-game series with Duluth Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
